Just got back from a visit

<p>I just got back from a visit and might I say, it was a great one. Many positives to say, few negatives.</p>

<p>Pros-

  1. Really nice campus
  2. Friendly people
  3. In most classes, you aren’t “just a number”
  4. Great math and science department (specifically engineering)
  5. Serious but fun college environment
  6. Walking is the only transportation you need to get around campus
  7. Big 12 school (good/competitive collegiate sports lots of school spirit)
  8. Great range of dorms (from more affordable to higher end luxury)
  9. It’s location puts it couple hours from the snowboarding slopes in NM
  10. It’s away from the parents for me (over 400 miles)
  11. Lots of oppurtunities to get involved (frats, clubs, orgs, etc.)</p>

<p>Cons-

  1. The city is dry (alcohol-wise)! =(
  2. Even though it’s up north, it’s still in Texas and it gets hot! (low humidity and often snowfall in winter however)
  3. (in your case, this may be a pro) Lubbock is a decently small city (roughly 200,000 people)
  4. The geography is completely flat (compared to the hills/lakes of central Texas, it’s looks a bit plain)</p>

<p>We visited this week and were blown away by what we saw. (Loved all the sculptures and fountains.) The Student Center and Rec Center were both great - including the obligatory climbing wall. DS was most thrilled with the fact that his ID card would let him in (free) to all football games, plays, etc. He will definitely be applying.</p>
