Just got CAP'ed for UT Austin; not sure if I should commit

I applied to UT Austin for Business and my second choice was philosophy; got CAP’ed instead. I’m caught between prelaw and Environmental Science. Is CAP worth it for me? If I were to do business at UTD would I be missing out?

Some thoughts about how UT CAP works - remember that while you are guaranteed a spot you are not guaranteed your major. In addition, CAP only guarantees admission to the Liberal Arts School, not other schools like McCombs or Cockrell. If you go the CAP route and are considering prelaw and Enviro, I’d look into pre-law at UT Austin. Keep in mind Pre-Law isn’t really a major but a track of courses you’ll take. For Environmental Sciences you’ll have to both the school of Natural Sciences and also your ES major itself - neither is guaranteed.

Make sure if you do the CAP route you can hit the 30 credit hours requirement. If you are dead set on UT and are fine with potentially not getting your choice major, go with CAP.

Business at UTD, to my knowledge, is still very highly ranked. While not ranked as high as McCombs, their business program is reputable. You may miss out on some specific opportunities at McCombs, but you won’t be severely disadvantaged.

If you want to major in business, then UT-Dallas is the better option.
