just got deferred from umich…stillworth applying to some of these schools

<p>I just got deferred from umich… is it worth applying to some of these schools on my list now? </p>

<p>I just got deferred from the University of Michigan(rolling) and Georgetown (early action) </p>

<p>My stats in a nutshell are </p>

<p>SAT- 1420 (710 math 710 writing)
SAT II (780- Writing, 700 Math IC 650 Chemistry)
By the time I graduate I will have taken 6 AP classes </p>

<p>I am a resident of Michigan and I go to a small private competitive school so my rank is not that high I know that Michigan focuses a lot on GPA mine was a cumulative of 3.4 - which i understand is rather low… but i have pretty much all honors classes</p>

<p>I think I am well rounded
-Field hockey 3 years Captain Senoir year
-Model UN - won a few awards

  • I volunteer
  • on newspaper
    -among other things I guess its pretty standard? </p>

<p>The only really bad thing on my transcript was that I got C in AP chem…. Not my strongest as you can tell….  I explained this, however, in each application </p>

<p>Anyways I want to know if I get differed from Michigan do I even have a shot at Barnard, U Penn, Johns Hopkins because I don’t want to get my hopes up for no reason.</p>

<p>I will put this bluntly. U Penn is an ivy league and therefore you have a very low chance of getting accepted. John Hopkins is a very prestigous university that places it’s emphasis on health sciences and you therefore have a very low chance of getting there either. I don’t know anything about Barnard so I can’t form an opinion.
Remember, these are all my opinions. There are probably some optimistic saps out there who would disagree with me.</p>

<p>Not really at Penn, but JHU (reach) and Barnard (match/ reach) are worth applying to.</p>

<p>When did you apply to UMich? If you applied recently, it could be that they were just topping off their class and were even more selective than normal. It has rolling admissions, so it is slightly different than the others. I do agree re: the other’s opinions on your chances at UPenn. However, I believe that your stats are very strong, and you should still apply to JHU & Barnard. Won’t you always wonder, if you don’t apply? You are a strong candidate.</p>

<p>Might want to look at some match schools like Colgate or Holy Cross. Holy Cross has a very good field hockey program with good facilities.</p>

<p>Sony, Penn will be extremely tough, and JH would be a mild reach. However, unlike Michigan, Penn and JH are far more random. Michigan will eliminate an applicate of a certain “type” simply because her/his GPA is under a 3.7 or the SAT is under 1300. Penn and JH have far more individualized admissions processes. So I would not give up on any school. You should apply to a couple of matches and a couple of good safeties.</p>

<p>I 100% agree with Alexandre. Top state schools are much more stats driven than private schools who will look at a whole package more.</p>
