I think your best bet now might be Rowan, Stockton, Ramapo, Montclair. Do well and transfer to RU. Maybe you’d be happy staying…Rowan in particular has come up a lot. Good luck and sorry about the rejection.

Today wasn’t as bad as expected. It was decent though, even though some teacher took my phone away. I’ll move on eventually but I still don’t feel too great. It’ll work out though.

No offense, but I’m not sure that someone that doesn’t get into Rutgers should apply to Penn State and Pitt. I think you should look at Temple, if they are still accepting applications.

By “it’ll work out,” do you mean that you’re working on it, or that you’re doing nothing and waiting for things to sort themselves out? Because the latter won’t happen.

Sorry to hear the news. Some more schools to add to the others that were already mentioned are Towson, Buffalo, St. Johns and Seton Hall. All are still accepting applications. Best of luck!

Don’t waste your time applying to Penn State or WVU or Pitt or any out-of-state public school. You were more likely to get into Rutgers than any of those because it is in-state, and OOS admissions are more difficult. Stick with those previously mentioned small schools in NJ, like Kean, Ramapo, Farleigh Dickinson, Montclair, etc. They’re good, you’ll have a good time, and most importantly will GO to college. If you work hard you can go to Rutgers someday.

Also Drexel and St. Joe’s in Philadelphia. But you have to sit down and get working. Take TONIGHT only to get it off your chest…but DONT drink. Just vent with your family and friends. And then tomorrow am early, get UP and out of bed. Get in the shower. Head down to local Starbucks and over a couple of good cups of joe strategize your future with someone you TRUST. Then go home, download the applications and get cracking. Have them DONE by Monday am and turn in your recommendation forms to the GC or teachers on Monday.

This happens to thousands of kids like you. You are not alone. But the difference in a HAPPY outcome and a poor outcome is entirely up to you, and that means being positive and looking forward. Its painful, I know. Turn the page and get to work. Its very cathartic to work on another application.

I also think that WVU is a good choice. And don’t forget Marshall. We ARE Marshall…a fine school.

You have lots and lots of choices.

good luck to you, and sorry for the bad news.

Seafoodlover, another good suggestion (Marshall) and some very good advice!

centre college (feb 1 deadline and no supp essays)

Yeah…well your grades and test scores must have been pretty bad to get rejected by Rutgers, lol…I don’t mean to sound like an a-hole but I didn’t do so hot in High School so I took a couple of years off, got the BS out of my system, went to community college for a year and a half and dedicated myself to getting a high GPA… I pulled a 4.0 and got accepted this spring to Fordham, Columbia and NYU… So before calling a Community College “Gay” … realize that maybe you belong there because, like me, you deserve to be there for not cutting it in high school…

You should be grateful that Community College offers dedicated students a second chance to show thier abilities and eventually get accepted into top schools… When you think about it, it’s really an amazing system we have here in the U.S, that allows us “late bloomers” to catch up and end up with the same degree from the same top schools as all the super smart kids who busted their butts for 4 years in High School.

…Just a different point of view for you to consider…

Someone mentioned Towson. I have no idea as to whether it is affordable for family. The thing that is nice about it, if you can afford to attend as an OOS student is that they are a rolling admissions school (recheck, but they gave my son an answer in less than 2 weeks). It would be nice to have an acceptance in your hand to take the pressure off. A lot small schools with rolling admissions will already be full, so don’t count on an acceptance from those schools, but it is still worth a try too. Definitely apply to some regular admission schools.

NJ has some good community colleges. Brookdale Communitiy college is very good. Some Rutgers professors teaches there. It is harder to get into Rutgers these days because of the competition at other colleges and the expense of going to the private colleges. Should not look down at the community colleges these days. I know many good students that can get into Rutgers go to Brookdale to complete their require electives for the first 2 years before transferring to Rutgers to save money. Good luck to you.

If the NJ state U’s (besides Rutgers) don’t do anything for you, just into PA are West Chester and East Stroudsburg. These are popular with NJ people and aren’t too selective but they’re decent enough and fun schools. But you’ll pay an out of state premium.

cheer up bro! if ur at the academic level at which you thought you had a chance with rutgers, guess what? YOU’RE HIGH UP THERE! its insane how many colleges there are out there…rutgers is not the only one.

It’s gonna definitely hurt getting rejected come March, I can only imagine how you’re feeling.

Keep your head up, get it out of your system and then take their advice and apply to some less selective but still competitive schools.

Remember, your dream of going to Rutgers isn’t dead. Plenty of kids transfer. Use this as motivation.

Good luck.

What about Rider, Kean, Felician, FDU, Drew, etc?

Also, here’s a good list of schools that accept applications through February (and later):

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/446587-those-still-looking-schools.html

And here’s a list list of some less selective schools that will accept applications February 1 and beyond:

University of New Hampshire
University of Kentucky
University of Connecticut
University of Rhode Island
North Carolina State
UNC Greensboro
Hartwick College
Ithaca College
Manhattanville College
Susquehana University
Wittenburg University

Just so that you aware, UCONN is now pretty competitive for students from NJ (I assume that you are from NJ). Also, depending upon major it can really be very hard to get in (ie: business major from NJ). Also, for OOS it is very expensive.
