just like any other Asian??

hi everyone! first off I don’t want to rub anyone the wrong way with this thread, but I have been reading through a lot of them and I know there is that “Asian stereotype”. I was just wondering if colleges would view me as falling into that too?
here are a few stats and ECs just to get acquainted:

ethnicity: Asian GPA:4.0 UW
gender: female
state: Ohio (is my state underrepresented in some top colleges??)
income: <100,000

awards:
volleyball district champs x2
2nd at DECA districts, 5th in state
many district art awards

ECs:
varsity volleyball 9-11(captian)
national volleyball qualifier
DECA
service club (officer: planned canned food drive for people in need- raised over 191,000 meals, other stuff with that)
Spanish club, principals advisory
NHS & NAHS
paid summer intern biomed science research- full time
part time job - server/ babysitter

also a bunch of volunteer work

please let me know what you guys think and maybe anything I can do to diversify myself?

oh I am a junior by the way

Try to get recruited to play volleyball if you still have the passion for it. It’s not very common for an Asian to continue to play this sport. My tiny Asian daughter got to a top LAC to play at a D3 level this Fall.

What’s your ACT/SAT?

@SnapApp 32 C / 33 Writing but I just retook it so not sure yet.
and I have already decided I don’t want to play volleyball because I’m interested in bigger schools

@kchendds that’s awesome! what school is she at?

You should be alright. Your chances of looking like a “stereotypical Asian” also depends on the schools your applying for. Some schools are desperate for more diversity, and some have tons of Asians applying.

Carleton College in MN

Ohio is middling in representation. Not over or under represented at higher ranked schools. If you want to go against the stereotype flow, I agree that focusing on LACs is one way to do that. Don’t get wound up in prestige. You should have a solid safety in Ohio State, assuming it is affordable.

No your profile looks fine. Typical Asian stereotypes are: math, violin, piano, swimming and tennis.

Just be yourself. Don’t worry about trying to look like someone you are not. If you are genuine and show a true passion this will easily come through.
