Just One Condiment

We had this discussion over dinner tonight. If you could only have one condiment in your life, what would it be?

Our house rules were that in general, salad dressings don’t count. Nor does butter.

I had to narrow it down to three and then pick from there. Full disclosure: I LOVE condiments. One hot sauce isn’t enough, five is better!

My top three were: Sriracha, Ranch (dipping), Ketchup.

My final choice: Ranch.
(funny thing though, restaurant ranch is always the best. Have yet to find a grocery store ranch I love).

Interesting that two others at the table choose ranch, one chose ketchup. My guess was that bbq sauce would also be a popular #1 for lots of people.

What would yours be??? ONE condiment. Narrow down to three at first if that helps!

Salsa. Can’t get rid of the Texan in my from 30 years there! Ketchup close second.

I have to say that I’ve really never thought about condiments! I only use them on sandwiches and I prefer mustard.

Do not like store-bought, bottled Ranch at all. I do like to make my own with the little packets of dry mix, but I only use it on salads. And I only use ketchup on french fries, which I rarely eat because I’m already fat enough.

Ketchup. I don’t use it often by itself but it certainly substitutes and is used in a lot of recipes.

Ketchup. And it would beat out all salad dressings if they were counted as condiments.

Sweet and spicy mustard.

I went with ranch over ketchup because I figure ketchup is important for french fries and on a burger. Ranch is ALSO great dipping fries in, dipping meat in and I can just add a slice of tomato to the burger - with ranch!!!

Salsa is a good one - a “hot” condiment is hard for me to pass up.

Mustard is one of the few condiments I eat.

Mayo, I guess, because I use it to make salad dressing and I eat salad every day. One of my daughters used to consume massive quantities of a certain brand and flavor of salsa. I don’t know if she still does. She probably doesn’t have functioning tastebuds anymore.

Sir Kennsington Mayonnaise and vinaigrette (I make my own with EVOO and aged balsamic vinegar).

Definitely mayo.

mayo

Horseradish sauce.

Major Grey chutney

Soy sauce. It makes everything tastes so much better. I have it with my hard boil eggs, I won’t eat it without soy sauce.

I hate condiments. The only salad dressings I like are Italian and vinaigrette. I’ll dip chips in salsa just to get them wet, but I don’t scoop and eat the chunky stuff. I do eat Chinese noodles with soy sauce.

I’m weird, I know.

Ketchup. My favorite salad dressing is the Balsamic Vinagarette from Whole Foods. It’s sold in a plastic jar not a bottle and it’s in the fresh prepared Foods refrigerator case.

Life without mustard is a depressing thought.

Mayonnaise. Oh, my life would be sad without mayo. You can do so many interesting things to dress it up and provide new flavors that aren’t possible with ketchup or mustard.

I don’t use condiments very often, but my favorite would be Miracle Whip.
