Just out of curiosity-Tesla

They are quite common in my part of Silicon Valley which is very close to Tesla HQ.

I’m also on the list for the model 3…Didn’t stand out all night, but did get on the list at the dealership on the first morning. I haven’t driven one yet, but have been a passenger often enough to think they are really great cars.

I drive a Chevy Volt. I do see one Tesla in our neck of the woods every so often.

Sheepishly raising my hand, we own a Tesla. We were the first in our neighborhood (two years ago) but I now see several others and many many more in our Southern California area. aMacDad can charge at work so that’s a great benefit. I love the self parking and it’s a blast to drive.

We’re coupon cutting, discount shopping people, so this may seem like an odd purchase for us. No regrets so far!

If you are driving from Houston to Dallas, there are recharging stations in Corsicana. Helpfully situated in the parking lot of the sandwich shop owned by the world famous fruitcake folks. Stop by, recharge, have lunch and send your relatives a fruitcake at one stop!

Yes, I see Teslas daily here in the Chicago suburbs. I have never driven one or been in one.

When I walk the dog in the morning, we go past a hospital and there is a charging station. Almost guaranteed to have 1-2 Teslas charging up.

I see Teslas in our neighborhood and at the nearby Costco. I always know it’s an electric car when I see the driver putting groceries under the hood where the combustion engine would otherwise be. I have not ridden in electric vehicles other than brother’s Leaf. He stood in line and put down a deposit for the cheaper Tesla that’s coming out, tho he could easily afford ANY car he wants, including the X.

Our street has a few hybrid priuses.

Yes, very common in AZ and in our solar community where the homes were built to accommodate charging electric cars. DH wants one badly. I told him he can have one when the price is below $50k. He’ll be waiting a while.

I’ve never seen one and have no idea what they look like.

I don’t know what they look like either. But cars don’t really interest me.

You can search online for a photo–to me they don’t look all that distinctive but they (like all electric vehicles) are VERY quiet.

It is very common in my neighborhood, Bay Area. Our friend has put a down payment for the Tesla 3. I don’t know if I like it because the middle console of the Tesla I rode in has a huge screen, too distracting. Plus, I would always worry about the range.

No worries about the range here. Mr’s daily RT commute is less than 30 miles. Plug it in at night, and it is back to 100% in the morning even if using a regular outlet.

https://www.tesla.com/ has some pictures of what they look like, among other things.

There is a Tesla showroom in my local mall. I’ve sat in one, but never driven. The only time I saw one on the road was in S.F.,

To Tesla owners: what’s insurance like? Are the costs more or less than your previous gas vehicle?

@gunnerz, it’s a bit difficult to say precisely because we have 4 insured cars, 2 to young drivers. It appears that the cost is less than for a used Range Rover that cost slightly less, and whose value is considerably less after 5 years. I asked my agent about this, and he thought that the reasons were:
1 - Teslas are seldom stolen (they can be easily tracked via iphone or Android, and Tesla Motors can disable without much difficulty). This is a big deal in NJ.
2 - Personal injury is low; people walk away from accidents because the crumple zone (without an engine) is easy to engineer
3 - Very little claims history for Tesla

I think that the insurance will go up over time, as the expensive body work will have an effect. Body work is expensive because of the extensive use of aluminum.

I see them all the time in my small town in metro west Boston. 1 friend has one on order.

At the ski resort I frequent, Tesla has set up 3 Tesla branded charging stations with parking spots conveniently located near the base lodge. Never seen a Tesla actually parked and charging though, its kind of a muddy lot. Maybe the owners don’t won’t to get dirt on the shiny new cars, lol.

Personally, while I think they are kind of cool, I would never spend my money on one. I need a durable, awd, vehicle I can beat the crap out of during ski season. I would feel bad destroying a nice car. I can get 3 decent beater cars for the price of 1 Tesla.

Your daughter needs to get out more. I see several every day just on my walk right here in Missouri. We also have Whole Foods, the internet, and indoor plumbing here in the heartland.

Very common here in So. Calif. If I didn’t live in such a remote area I would probably get one too. IMO, the price needs to drop, and the range needs to go up (substantially).

Good cars for city people, not so much for rural people.

The range worries me, too. I tend to push the limit on the gas. I would hate to wait around to recharge in the middle of a trip. I see them all the time. They look nice.
