minz: Don’t worry about it. I came in with a better background than a lot of people (Calc BC in junior year, Multi-V in senior year), which allowed me to skip out of a few classes. However, in the classes that I didn’t skip out of, I was completely pwned by people who only took Calc AB, and not until their senior year. Everyone who’s been accepted to Mudd is super smart (this means you!), and the stuff here is challenging enough that the differences in HS education often end up being negligible. Though Mudders have generally heard of the AMC and other math contests, I don’t think most people took them.

Dang! That’s insane! I’m not surprised that we stole so many of the discrete solutions, especially since a couple of the teams had math/cs majors on there (The Mudd teams with a CS major on them have done quite well in the past). Unfortunately, none of the teams got an Outstanding designation this year :(. We still did have a finalist though, and there were quite a few freshman who successfully completed the competition (a team with a senior and two freshman made it to “meritorious”, so there is definitely hope).

Putnam results were fairly good this year. Our team did fairly well, and Palmer (a sophomore) managed to pull of a 12th place score, so that’s pretty awesome.
