Chances of acceptance RD? NEU is my first choice- and I just wrote them a letter telling them that…

wait, you can write a letter to them?? Who did you send it to?

I haven’t sent it yet…I think you can though. Is it your first choice?

yeah…I think I’ll send one in soon. What did you include in your letter and how long is it?

It’s not long, about a half a page. What is your prospective major?

Business, international business to be exact. I hope you will get in!!! Did you sent in your SAT score or ACT score?

Thanks, you too! I sent in both scores.

You really are worrying about this too much. ;p

I agree with bryman, but a letter sounds like a good idea. to let them know you are very interested. you’ve got a pretty good chance

hmm, thats odd you were deferred. good luck RD.

You were DEFERRED?

I don’t understand it. Your grades are awesome, your schedule is rigorous, your ec’s and volunteering are great…

Number 4 here got deferred too. I was astounded.

Sounds like Northeastern is getting a little snotty, if you ask me…

You have a good shot at getting in RD. I don’t understand why you didn’t get in EA, but hopefully you will, and if for some odd reason you don’t, you can probably get in somewhere even better.

Good luck! :)

^ How is Northeastern Snottie? with over 35,000 applicants its simply getting more competitive.

I’m just astounded that the OP and number 4 in my class got deferred. I can’t say for the OP, but 4 had stats way above the NEU average. I’m wondering who’s getting in and why these great applicants are getting deferred, because I can’t imagine better stats and EC’s than 4 here.

It’s called the “Tufts Syndrome” i think

your GPA is fine and dandy but I think by looking at your SAT scores, it shows your high school is simply not very competitive. Do kids from your h.s. go on to top schools? i think that’s the problem here…

and honestly, northeastern has gotten so competitive that it’s not a numbers or EC’s game anymore. you need something more, you need to stand out…

this is definately not Tufts Syndrome… it would be T.S. if his/her SAT’s were way above their 75&tile

but good luck, you sound like you really want to attend neu and that’s good!

This is most certainly not Tufts Syndrome. Yes, the OP has great stats and seems to be highly qualified, but her SAT scores are low for Northeastern.

While I think the OP is a perfect candidate, Northeastern was particularly intense about SAT scores for EA this year. A lot of qualified people from my school got deferred and I know they don’t have the best SAT scores.

Northeastern is far from snotty. Clearly the application process is just a crapshoot - something we all KNEW already.

I don’t think it would be outrageous to say that Northeastern is becoming more selective, though - as their standards have been getting higher, the admit rate for the university has been going down every year for nearly a decade.

I wonder if financial aid was a factor…did the OP and the #4 need a lot of aid?

Agree that I think it just came down to scores. An 1810, while perfectly respectable, doesn’t make you a shoe-in anymore. 4 years ago? Definitely. But the school gets more and more competitive each year, last year’s averages will not be this year’s averages.

I think you are a good match for NU and would think you’ll get in regular admissions, but I don’t think it’s Tufts syndrome.
