I just finished Kaplan’s New SAT Critical Reading Workbook, took the practice tests at the end, and I just found some of the answers to the questions to be awful. I also have beef with some of the inference questions–some of them seemed rather objective and other just stupid.

For example:
Passage excerpt:
“While everyone[humans], including the jellyfish, would like to avoid these encounters, they are not uncommon.”

The author uses the phrase “including the jellyfish” in order to.

A) introduce humor to an otherwise serious discussion
B) encourage the reader’s sympathy for the jellyfish

Okay, I knew A was quite a possiblity, but couldn’t B have been the answers? The author certainly seemed like he/she wanted the reader to know that jellyfish want to avoid humans as well because they fear them too, and vice versa. However, the explanation in the back says “Since its clear jellyfish couldn’t have any feelings about its encounter, the author is apparently using this image to make the reader smile.” Sounds kind of bias too, who says animals dont have feelings?

Also other questions in the book I dont want to bring up. Is it just me, or are the practice tests in this book just not accurate?

–BTW, just to save starting another thread, adoes all the tests in the 11 REAL NEW SAT by TCB contain new questions?? Because I already have 10 Reals 3rd ed. and 8 Reals (serial). Thanks !
