Kaplan Tutoring: Scam or Effective?

So I signed up for a Kaplan Premier Tutoring program last September. When I took my first test, I scored a 1780.
About a week later, I took the PSAT, and when the score came back, I got a 203.
Each time I took a Kaplan proctored practice test, my score went up without much effort (ie studying).
On the last test, I scored 2160.
However, I always did best on math, and could never break 700 on Critical Reading.

My June SAT results: 2280 (800 CR, 800 writing (12 essay), 680 M)

I’m happy, but was I scammed out of money? Or do you think the class has value?

Anyone? Bump

Well idk Kaplan didnt really help me I got a 2100 practice test, but I got a 1910 on the real one :(

I’m sorry nervousjim
But I’m still wondering… Was that 500 point increase due to the program, or what I would have been able to do alone?

It was probably your own dedication and hard work, Kaplan gives you some fundamental tips, though nothing you couldn’t get from a SAT book. At least that’s how it was for me, nice job though!

I consider companies such as Kaplan and Princeton Review scams, just seeking money. To illustrate, I recently took a free diagnostic test through Kaplan. The proctors seemed lazy, and graded the essays while we did the other nine sections. One proctor thoroughly read our essays and marked it up in pen and made comments, while the other merely wrote down our score in pencil.

I feel that getting SAT tutoring from a small hometown based establishment would be better, and will yield better scores as well.

To gain practice, you should also try to take any free diagnostic tests as much as possible. To do this, simply search your zip code on PR’s site (http://www.princetonreview.com/</a>) and look at free test dates.
