I am searching for several flights for several trips, and am finding much better fares at expedia . . . very surprised. And I checked expedia only because I had the window open to that site already.

I thought this was going to be about a kayak paddling failure:)

I’m surprised as well. I am currently checking fares for a trip home and kayak is finding cheaper fares than expedia for me. Mine are international flights though.

I had a lot of luck finding the low fare and flight on

http://matrix dot itasoftware dot com/

Then I would use the travel agent websites (expedia, travelocity, kayak… etc) and see if my desired flights came up with the desired fares.

I was also surprised at the changes that occurred both in flights and fares on a day to day basis as I repeated queries over and over again for a week.

^^^I know what you mean about the price changes. I am checking 2-3 times a day and keep getting varying prices. Friday morning I found a really good price - unfortunately my new passport hasn’t arrived yet so I couldn’t bite the bullet and buy it. Worried the prices are going to climb soon as my proposed trip is just 3 weeks away (trying to go home to see my Mum who broke her hip but need to be back for my husbands next round at M D Anderson - can’t believe I let my stupid passport expire - I was kind of preoccupied I guess).

Cookies on your computers remember your searches…make sure to clear

I find that quite useful. I have to keep clearing cookies because a game I’m playing locks up is I don’t. Then I am all irritated because I have to retype in my flight details. Gosh, computers have made me lazy and impatient.

Seriously, Airfares are cheapest ANYTIME between a.m. Tuesday late afternoon thru Thursday on a very regular basis. For 3 years I made my D’s reservations at 2 a.m. Wed. night. Recently I watched for 3 weeks and made reservations for $610 instead of $1100. I made two one way tickets. I also spent about 20 hours figuring this out. Might not be worth it to many but this is kind of a vendeta with me–just hate the game the airlines play and so far
I have won.

also, once you find out flight and price make your reservation through the airline. Expedia and such use to be able to offer lower prices but the airline ALWAYS match their price now. If you are stuck with a problem you really really want to deal with the airline and not an itermediary–when the price is the exact same.
That said I love love love Kayak for the search engine. Know that a few airlines are not on Kayak–mainly Southwest which is an amazing airline.
I would never again fly Spirit even if my tickets were free. Just google Spirit reviews if you are in doubt. Just a horrid experience.,

D just flew Spirit after the Midway closure last week. I was able to get a ticket for the same day for a very similar price as Southwest. Her only comment was that there was very little leg room and they charge for luggage and for carry on too.

And i found it using Kayak!

[Matrix Airfare Search](<a href=“ITA Software by Google”>ITA Software by Google)

[ITA Software by Google](http://www.itasoftware.com/)

I’m also finding Kayak to be high and to also search only one or two airlines. If you book a car or a seat when you book your flight, everything goes up. When you try to just book a flight (even after clearing your cookies) the increase airfare stands. Each time I tried to rebook a car, it went up. Ended up not renting a car.

If you call in right after you book your flight online you will get a seat for no extra charge. If you book it with the ticket it is $20/seat.

I know some would rather book the seat at the time of booking ticket.
