which is a better school between Kelly School of business Vs Mays School Vs SMU COx school of Business. My son wants to go inot law school after undergrad and and so far he has gotten into these 3 school and we live in Texas, trying to figure out which is a better school.
Zero for law school. Frankly it won’t matter where you go.
But if he didn’t go to law school - that might sway the decision. If he wanted finance, all three are fine but SMU and Kelley likely more reputed.
Accounting - IU, etc.
Mid size city - SMU etc.
Which can you afford and of those which does he prefer.
Short of maybe a certain major desire I’d go with that. Law school has costs too so take that into account.
Congrats on three solid admissions.
All can be good choices. If law school is the plan, A&M in-state will be significantly help save a lot of money toward law school. If money is no object, all 3 are great so pick the one you like best or best fit.
If no law school, all 3 would probably have similar caliber outcomes for business unless you are going into I-banking. If I-banking is a potential goal, SMU and Kelley may have some benefit…but could cost twice as much or more.
If you plan to stay in Texas, A&M and SMU may have some advantage though a degree from any of the 3 should help you do well anywhere in the US.
No difference among his 3 options if goal is to attend law school immediately after finishing his undergrad degree. Your son needs to consider career/employment opportunities from each school rather than focusing on attending law school (which can easily be accomplished from any of the 3 schools).
Thank you! He was trying to see based on the colleges where he might have good internship opportunities etc… Seems like IU does not have any major companies in the campus.
Thank you! He was trying to see based on the colleges where he might have good internship opportunities etc… Seems like IU does not have any major companies in the campus. And SMU might be better since Dallas has somany companies around it. He got some scholarships(30K) for SMU. so think that might be a better choice.
They are all good choices. My 24 is considering SMU and A&M among others (TX instate). I asked to look at IU more closely but I think cold weather was a non-starter.
Just to make sure…do you mean there are less internships in Bloomington specifically rather than IU has less line of sight to internships? I’m not a big IU person but the latter does not sound right. I think IU is known for having pretty good placement including internships. Others closer to IU can comment more.
On SMU side, did you get BBA Scholar or direct admit to Cox? My 24 is still leaning to Mays…tough to beat for the cost with great outcomes. Culturally, I would guess IU closer to A&M than SMU though they are all unique in their own ways.
Is he seeking a during year internship ? Internships usually happen in summer and most don’t get til at least after second year.
I would not let internship access drive this. Today many kids are finding them via the internet. My kid had 20 interviews and 5 job offers coming from Tuscaloosa.
The first internship is hardest. Then it gets easier.
If he wants to work year round there’s enough in range of all three. Even IU.
But just summer - where you go won’t matter.
If it did IU wouldn’t be ranked where it is - at the top of these three.
Thank You!!!
Yha, I mean Bloomington has less opprtunities, and yes the cold is definetly a major factor to think abt :-(.
He got into the Cox BBA Scholars program his offer letter said The BBA Scholars program guarantees admission to the world-renowned Cox School of Business.BBA Scholars enter the Cox School of Business after their first term at SMU. I am assuming that this means he is a direct admit.
He got in to McCombs UT Austin, He is going to pick UT Austin now.
Wait - that wasn’t one of the choices
Congrats to your student!!
Thank you . with the number of deferals he was getting, I was worried that he will not get into McCombs.
