My kid went to IUB with pre-business, got all As except one bad grade with 3.3 GPA in first semester, missed automatic admission to Kelly because of this. Can anyone advise about appeal process? As a parent, can we talk to anyone to understand the appeal process? please advise. Thanks!
On their website, they don’t show a process - only entering first year. They simply say this:
You can still be considered for admission as your application will be reviewed. Earning B’s and above is only required for automatic admission. Applications that do not meet that criteria will go through a comprehensive committee review.
I suggest your student reach out and ask about the standard admission review process.
Contact bschool@iu.edu or 812-855-4474. Please allow three to five business days for a response.
For others reading who are thinking of a non direct admit program, if you want to go to business school, choose a direct admit program - it’s too much stress and pressure otherwise.
Or- consider something “business adjacent” or just relevant to a business career.
Kid interested in Marketing? Psychology is an excellent major.
Kid interested in Operations or Production? Statistics is an excellent major.
Kid interested in International Business? Major in a foreign language, minor in econ, poli sci or history.
Kid interested in Finance? Major in Econ and plan to start the self- study for the CFA right after graduation to nail down the more applied skills in finance.
Kid interested in Real Estate (either development or financing?) Major in Urban Planning.
Etc. There are so many kids spinning because they didn’t get a direct admission-- there are many, many ways to have a successful business career which do not involve majoring in “business”.
I know this situation is stressful for you and your student. I would recommend you let your student handle any further discussion or appeal.
I agree with everything blossom posted. Maybe your student would like to be a stats major or econ, or whatever. And they can pair that with a minor or certificate from Kelley.
If none of that is appealing, your kid can consider transferring. If that is potentially on the table, Fall 2025 application deadlines will start becoming due in February. If your student was looking at an accounting major, obviously they would have to transfer (unless they wanted to major in something outside of Kelley, get an accounting certificate at Kelley, and then do an MSADA which does prepare them for the CPA exam.)
Although my kid is just a n of 1, she was a neuroscience major at an LAC and is working at an IB analyst. There are many pathways for non-business majors in the finance world.
