keloid treatments

Has any one actually had success in addressing keloid scars. DD had stitches and an excision and has a nasty ugly painful keloid. She also no longer has the insurance coverage she had at the time so would be paying out of pocket for treatment.

I have read some online info, but would love to hear of success or even of attempts to treat which failed, so she can really evaluate her options

I have keloid scars from chicken pox when I was 13. I had them treated with cortisone shots in my 20’s. One scar on my chest almost disappeared, the other on my shoulder shrunk, but didn’t disappear. As i was in the UK and had to go to the hospital for the shots I gave up. I recently had it treated again with more success. It has now flattened but is still quite red. Dermatologist assures me the redness will fade with time. I had a series of shots every couple of weeks. Maybe 6 treatments. Keloid scars are hard to deal with and people can be insensitive. I got tired of people asking me if I had burnt myself hence why I sought treatment again. Good Luck to your D.

Daughter, who does not “normally” keloid, had a really bad one on her thigh from a rock climbing mis-step in the Tetons. Since they were busy  , she didn’t go to a hospital and it healed in a long red jagged scar.

She had lazer treatments and now it is barely visible. It took about three or four lazer treatments over a year or so, but it was worth it.
