Kendama Craze

DS2 is a HS junior. He is obsessed with Kendamas, the Japanese ball and stick toy. He practices constantly, buys and sells them, makes videos of “sessions”, hangs out with other players, he even “mentors” the middle school Kendama Club. Is the craze in your area?

I never heard of it. But then again, I don’t have high-schoolers any more.

I’ve never heard of it either! I will look it up. It sounds like fun.

Sounds like a great unusual EC for college admissions. :)

Aha! I had never heard of these, but it sounds like a great Xmas gift for my college son!

My S2 is also a h.s. junior. Never heard of these. However, several years back, maybe when he was 11 or 12 years old, there was a similar craze of something called a Spinabolo. Have you heard of those? Also similar, but bigger and made from plastic instead of wood. He still plays with it on occasion, but he was very obsessed back then. I guess whatever they can do to de-stress or decompress! Junior year is tough!

Spinabolo sounds like a Diabolo…DS also uses those, can yoyo quite well, juggles, and rides a unicycle. We have joked that if college admissions don’t work out there is always clown college. I agree that his passion for “skill toys” will come shining through on college apps. His older brother wrote about his hobby of paper crafting in a short answer. Everyone has their quirks!
