<p>Thanks, alwaysamom, for pointing out some of the hype. I was just explaining to a firend this afternoon that $9,500 was undoubtedly the price paid for him at the yearling sales, not after he was the Canadian champion 2-yr-old colt. (Although I still love the pickup story.

<p>Sounds as if Rachel Alexandra could have won the Triple Crown. I don’t agree with the idea that running against colts somehow makes fillies break down. More likely it is breeding and training for success as a 2 yr old and 3 yr old then off to the breeding shed, rather than breeding to be raced at 4 and 5 and 6.</p>
