Kenyon Class of 2030 Official Thread

This is the official thread for those applying ED & RD to Kenyon College.

List your unweighted GPA, any SAT /ACT scores, and ECs. What majors are you going into? Ask your questions, the CC community is here to help!

ED results are out as per IG post. How did you all fare?

I applied Regular Decision, but today at 6:30 I was e-mailed that there was a status update on my portal…I got in, and received the President’s Scholarship ($25,000 per year!!)

The opening line of the message was: ”When you know, you know. Your complete and compelling application told us everything that we need to know about you, and we did not want to wait any longer to welcome you to the Kenyon community.”

So excited!

My S26 got accepted as well!!! We were all surprised because he applied RD and he wasn’t expecting a decision until March!! He’s VERY EXCITED!!! His letter said he received the highest merit. We are going to let him process and celebrate, but he knows that the other part of the decision is financial and good overall fit. He’s not ready to decide just yet but Kenyon is in his top 3!

Congrats to your son!!! I’m hoping to double major in Biology and Philosophy. Kenyon is 100% in the running for me, however I’m waiting on my other regular decision schools to fully understand all my options.

My son is waiting for other RD and EA schools as well, but Kenyon is up there, and it will put it over the edge if he gets the writing award as well.

Congrats again to you and best wishes to you as you make your decision!

Congrats! Kenyon didn’t use to announce its RD decisions early, but with so many LACs adding an EA option, it probably wants to stay competitive and proactive. Great school.

D26 got in as well, with $35k in merit. We were very surprised and had just been talking at dinner about whether schools ever let kids know earlier than the general decision date. D’s letter talked about one of her recommendations. We need to make an Ohio trip now …

For posterity: D has 4.0UW, 1550 and 35, all 5s on 6 AP exams, strong extracurriculars but nothing earthshattering, good essays and what I assume are good recommendations.

It does help because now we could do a trip to Ohio in Feb. or early March to check out Oberlin, Wooster, and Kenyon.

We were very surprised about hearing so early and that makes a lot of sense especially since Oberlin EA decisions went out last week!

Congratulations!!! Your D has some great options there! We were very surprised as well! Yes, we’re grateful for the earlier decision so we can visit sooner. We are going to discuss which admitted students day to attend hopefully tonight!

Things have changed so much since my order daughter (high school class of 2020) was applying to colleges (mostly LACs). She received most of her decisions in March. Her sister is applying this year, and she has already heard from 4 schools out of 7 (with one more coming up later this month). She didn’t apply to Kenyon (her sister’s alma mater) only because she followed in her sister’s footsteps too much before, from the same preschool to the same small high school, and wanted to carve her own path in college. Our family (my husband and I are both professors at a large state flagship) was super impressed with Kenyon; we didn’t know much about it beforehand, and it exceeded our expectations. Best of luck, everyone, your kids have great options.

I think most decisions are still not coming til March … DD has 13 more …

Yes, it depends on the number and range of schools. My kids only applied to 7 each. But, for example, my older daughter didn’t hear from Macalester and Oberlin (and Kenyon) until March, but her sister has already heard from the first two (and probably would have heard from Kenyon if she applied, based on her stats).

Congrats!! When did you/your kid apply? Were you on the early side (Nov) or Dec/Jan? My son applied Jan 2 so I can’t imagine they’ve reviewed his app yet but you never know…

Hmm, not sure but I think she may have submitted back in November or early December.

My kid submitted November 11 as an RD applicant because he wanted to submit all his RD apps before winter break.

Wow– so early– I’m impressed! My son applied ED to Bowdoin and didn’t work on any other apps until hearing back and he was sadly rejected. He took the rest of December to finish his RD apps.
