Kenyon KEEP Scholarship

S26 applied to Kenyon RD and was notified that he is eligible to apply for their KEEP Scholarship. It’s unclear on their website how much the scholarship will be. Does anyone know? Is it worth applying for? If you or your student was awarded the KEEP Scholarship, can you please share your summer experience, expectations, and anything else you don’t mind sharing. Thank you!

It says this:

This scholarship eliminates the loan and work-study obligations of a need-based financial aid package for all four years, and it also provides a $500 book and supply allowance for each student’s first academic year.

So I imagine whatever loan package and work study package they give you - that’s what it will cover.

What does the NPC show - you can probably figure it out from there as they’ll tell you the amount of loan and work study.

There’s also a one time $500 book scholarship and a required summer session b4 that has two classes.

Thank you, yes, we saw that on their website. S26 is hoping to hear from students who actually got the KEEP scholarship and share their experience. Hopefully someone will chime in!

Hello!

I am a Junior at Kenyon College. I am a KEEP scholar, and I completed the summer experience prior to my freshman year. It has proved to be an invaluable experience that has set me up for a lot of success, and I definitely recommend applying! Students take two classes that they get college credit for, Writing Analytically and Data Analysis, which are each about 2.5 weeks long. Each class had two professors leading two sessions daily, with a third session at night led by two Kenyon T.A.s. I actually served as a T.A. for the Data Analysis class the summer after my KEEP experience because I found my time so fulfilling! Beyond these class sessions, the program builds time in for cohort activities and trips, such as to Columbus, Cedar Point theme park, etc. on the weekends. Students also have the opportunity to engage in connection luncheons with various college offices throughout the summer. We got to hear from the Center for Global Engagement to learn about study abroad, the Civil Rights Office, the Dean of Student Affairs, and professors from various departments to familiarize ourselves with different aspects of the school.

Beyond simply helping me feel more comfortable navigating the college campus upon my return that fall for the official start of the semester, I was confident utilizing office hours with professors, and felt like I had a group of familiar faces built into my freshman experience. I was imbued with these abilities by the KEEP experience. To me, it helped take some of the stress out of my fall because I felt like I got the hang of a lot of things during the summer. My professors and T.A.s from that summer are people I still regularly talk to and maintain relationships with, regardless of whether I have taken other classes with them. I feel lucky to have made such great connections during that time, and encourage anyone to apply!

Best wishes,

Thank you so much for the feedback on the KEEP experience! I will share this with my son. May I ask what your major is?
