Keurig K-cup or Vue

For the Keurig, you have to sample many varieties to find the ones you like. H only drinks decaf and started out ordering the 5 cup packs of all of them. Some he found truly nasty and has settled on 3-4 favorites. I’m the same with tea. I love Chai tea, however have only found Twinnings decaf Chai to be the only acceptable K-cup. The others were very bitter.

I hope Roger sends you a Starbucks gift card for reaching 50,000 posts. That way you can abandon that Keurig stuff.

Well, that is after I make you post a rebuttal.

While I appreciate the suggestions of a French press or nespresso, I don’t appreciate thread hi-jacking. We have a nespresso and the pods are indeed pricey and a pain to get. So far, I haven’t heard any compelling arguments for the Vue.

Xiggi…Dang…is that all I have. I need to hope for a quirk in the system so I can have Samurai’s numbers.

For those who’d like a good variety pack for a good price, try Brooklyn Beans … 40 cups for $22. Subscribe and save is even cheaper.

The box comes with about 12 different varieties.

copied from Amazon…I don’t know if the numbers are right, but my box came with 14 different ones.

BTW…xiggi…I think a person can have a better tasting result with the Keurig if they don’t use the mug size water size for a non-extra-bold-kcup.

Kathi…

sorry for the hijacking…

How does your mom take her coffee? Is she a specialty coffee lover? How many cups get drunk a day in her home?

xiggi, and those 49,999 posts don’t include posts in the Parent Cafe!

Regarding the diff between the two coffee makers: go for the best seller, regardless of how well they make coffee. This is kinda like which is better: VHS or Beta? One will drop out because of price/distribution/etc. Plus, the cost of the actual unit is minimal when you think of it. Their real profit is in the coffee packs. Sounds like the Keurig is outpacing the VUE from what I’ve seen.

The Kohls flyer today had five Keurig models for, sale…NONE were Vue…all were K cup. That was telling to me. I’d stick to the K cup model. They are easy to use, a huge variety of k cups are available almost everywhere. If you buy it at Costco, and your mom hates it, you can return it.

Like I said upstream…my 87 year old father loves his Keurig. He can have a fresh cup of coffee any time he wants. And he can easily make coffee when friends visit. He never was good with the Krups we had. The Keurig is great.

I love my Keurig because I brew exactly one cup of coffee in the morning. (If I have a second cup, it is usuaaly much later in the day.) The cups are about forty cents each, which is far cheaper than a Nespresso or Vue.

You do need to clean them out occasionally: remove the black insert and clean it, then run a few cycles of water through to get rid of coffee build-up.

I just bought myself a Vue. I held off on a Keurig for the longest time because the one cup of coffee I have in the mornings is typically a big one (16 oz or so) and more often than not, I end up using a travel mug and leaving with the coffee. The Vue has cups/sizes that are made for the larger size, which is what I was looking for.

What I used for the longest time was the Hamilton Beach Single Serve Scoop which doesn’t use cups (and cleaning it is a pain), but allowed me to brew larger cups of coffee.

^^^
Does the Vue have different size Vue-cups? I know that it has different size water amounts…which the regular Keurig does as well.

If the VUE cups are one size, then putting 16oz of water sounds like watered-down coffee. I know it has some kind of “strength” choice, but it seems hard to believe that the same small Vue cup can create strong coffee for a travel mug…but maybe it can. :)

The Keurig that the OP is asking about has a large size as well - but not 16 oz.

Choice of 5 cup sizes: 4-oz., 6-oz., 8-oz., 10-oz., 12-oz.

But frankly, unless you like weak coffee, if you’re filling a tall travel cup then you’re better off brewing 2 K-cups (or maybe 2 Vue cups) to get that much coffee at a good strength.

My TJ Maxxx has the Vue for 99.99.

I know that Nesspresso cups are more expensive and you have to order them, but I totally agree with xigi here. I found keurig coffee not drinkable, but I love nesspresso coffee.

H got a free single-brew K Cup from my dad–won at a golf tournament. He is happy to have one cup at a time (as he’s the coffee drinker and has made me return the coffeemakers I previously bought him, including a single-brew K cup. My sister has several different coffee makers but doesn’t like the pricier pods of the Vue either. Most folks I know have and are happy enough with the K cup makers and equivalent, especially since the price of the K cups has gone down and they are available nearly everywhere, including CVS, Macy’s, B&N, etc.

I haven’t read all the posts but I recently switched to a Hamilton Beach single serve coffee maker. It actually brews the coffee one cup at a time. I LOVE it. Much better and cheaper than the K cups we previously used.

Too late to edit…brews regular ground coffee, one cup at a time, and around $44.

There are certain Vue cups that are designated for travel cups, so I’m assuming that they’re stronger.

Of TJMaxx has the Vue for $100, and Kohls doesn’t have it at all in their flyer…I would NOT view this as a good sign for the longevity of the Vue.

I think you all are right about the Vue being discontinued. I was at Target two days ago and there were two Vue’s on an endcap on clearance for $60! No new ones were in the regular aisle at all! I have to say that I was tempted to buy one just because I knew the original price and it does seem like a better machine. However, if they do indeed discontinue it, that would be a really stupid purchase. I resisted!

Meanwhile, I ordered the k-cup Keurig from Costco and it came yesterday afternoon. It looks really nice and has the water filter. The one we have at work doesn’t have that. I also got a box of the Brooklyn Beans k-cup’s - thanks mom2collegekids! We’ll have a crowd here at Christmas and I want the machine to get a work out before I send it away with my Mom in case there are any problems, but I don’t want to deplete her stock.

*I think you all are right about the Vue being discontinued. I was at Target two days ago and there were two Vue’s on an endcap on clearance for $60! *

not a good sign. I saw a Nespresso on clearance at Target as well. Made me have the same thought. Yes, some of us will order cups online, but a number of folks want the grocery store convenience.

Enjoy the Brooklyn Beans Variety box!

I don’t think nepresso is going out of business, it’s very popular in Europe so I think you will be able to find their pods. I wish my target had them on clearance as I really really want one but can’t justify the purchase.

I’m having a crowd at Christmas and am thinking of buying a coffee pot so I’m not spending a fortune on kcups. Some of the older crowd drinks a ton of coffee but I’m a one maybe 2 cups a day so the Keruig is perfect for everyday.
