Kid related that kid got a phone call out of the blue from Ivy alumni interviewer, about a week after the in-person interview, seeking further info about kid’s interests, intended major, etc. Vibe was very good. Kid thinks interviewer was looking for pieces needed to make a compelling argument for admitting kid. I have never heard of this happening. I’m hoping it’s a good indicator. Has anyone heard of this happening?
Maybe? Your guess is a good as mine, as none of us work in Admissions. Keep your fingers crossed but make sure kid’s working on RD apps, just in case.
Alumni are often assigned interviews based on geography. I wouldn’t read too much into it. But it can’t be a bad thing!
@parentologist A second interview! I would feel encouraged by that. It doesn’t sound like the typical alumni interview. Hoping for the best for the kid!
Wouldn’t read too much into it. The interviewer is probably needing to refresh his/her recollection as they write their report. If there has only been 1 week since the in-person interview, I doubt there has been enough time elapsed where the interviewer wrote and submitted a report with the AO needing follow up.
I agree with @BKSquared. For what it’s worth, I can attest that Princeton asks its alumni interviewers not to make any follow-up calls to interviewed students - even if it’s only to clarify something that the student said, or to refresh the interviewer’s memory – because the students might interpret the follow-up as a meaningful indicator of their admission chances. The university also warns interviewers that nearly all of the kids they interview – including most of those for whom they submit a glowing report – will not be admitted.
I’m not trying to be a downer … merely trying to keep expectations reasonable.
I would not read anything into it. Typically alumni interviews don’t really move the needle in the admissions process.
