Kid stranded at Philladephia airport. Again.

(Uhh, two ll’s? Can’t edit. Maybe I was thinking of heLL while I was typing. Sorry. ;))

How, and more to the point, why do you folks live up there in the tundra?

I know summer sucks here and our politics do leave just a bit to be desired but our beef BBQ is good, and you can see the sky, and real Texas country music is much better than Nashville’s “pop goes the country” version, and more to the point

airports actually have planes that fly into and out of them on a semi-regular basis.

No real problems. Just griping. She has one last shot at making it into Cleveland tonight to see the “seemingly non-random boy”. After that craps out it’ll be the airport hostel. Happy Holidays from yours truly, the Grinch.

for the awesome cheesesteaks, the Phillies. the change of seasons… :)

I’m just whining. I spent a year in Philadelphia…one day. Went back and it was closed. ;)

And, hey. We have seasons out here on the ranch, too. Drought and flashflood.

I avoid the Philly airport like the PLAGUE. It’s the one airport I refuse to fly into or out of…or make a connection at. It’s an awful place. We goofed last year and flew home through Philly…our flight was supposed to arrive at 7:30 p.m. It arrived at 2 a.m…no luggage.

I feel your pain Curm…tell that girl to visit ME…we have three extra bedrooms and lots of space and it’s a cardrive away…no planes. I’ll introduce her to my son.

Ask anyone who has done a lot of flying and has to connect in Dallas what they think of Texas airports! I didn’t have much trouble when I lived there, but apparently it’s one of the worse as far as cancelled flights and getting stuck there.

As for Philly- I’ve made it clear how I feel about it and how fast I got out, but the good things are the Phillies, Eagles and WaWa. And TastyKakes. And some history. When I got to Texas it seemed like history sort of skipped it- well, except for the whole Alamo thing which they beat to death.

Someone who’s good at searching for old threads should dig up the one where those of us from the Philly area talked about all the things we loved about it. I’m sure Curm would enjoy. ;)

p.s. Interestingly, I don’t think any of us still live there!

I wasn’t just dinging Philadelphia. My ding was intended for the entire frozen region. It was a broader bashing.

And MOWC, don’t be getting all factual and stuff with airport stats… and stuff. ;)

I’m just griping and I know it.

Gripe away…my husband flies home tomorrow and my son on the 24th. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for good weather…and no, neither is flying through Philly. One is flying through Charlotte…anyone care to comment on THAT airport (my husband hates it but he hates Philly MORE).

I don’t get to complain about the tundra anymore since we get these 2 inch snow storms in middle TN and none of us can get out of our neighborhoods because of the hills and ice! I thought I lived in the south!

Well, you know I love TX, but tonight my D’s flight left late from SA, later from Hobby. What’s the excuse? First time she didn’t take a direct flight. Never again.

deja vu all over again…I guess you will have to brace yourself for more of these flight problems, winter is only just getting going.

I don’t like winter, however, all my attempts to relocate to a warmer climate have ultimately met with failure…Sometimes a place throws you out, and sometimes you seemed to be sucked into it against your will (for your D’s sake I hope this is not the case with Philadelphia).

In our family, we have a love/hate relationship with Philadelphia. We keep going back anyway.

I hope she gets home soon.

curmudgeon, you are the rare Texan who will admit to any Texan faults ;)

I’m very glad that you are happy in Texas. I was not, during the long 3 years I lived there. The summer of '80 - hotter than the hinges of hell - drove us out for good. I haven’t burned my fingers on the front door handle since moving north…

The Philadelphia area is not so bad because our proximity to the ocean keeps the climate milder than it is inland.

People who are into horticulture know that the list of landscape plants that grow here is much, much longer than the list in the “frigid midwest.” :)

I seem to remember something from years ago in Texas called…“blue northers”!??

Summer of 80 was the worst ever. It was the summer I met my wife. We had to spend a lot of time indoors. Wasn’t that bad afterall. We found things to do. ;)

Hi MOWC - My daughter, at Vandy, could not believe how Nashville was not taking care of it’s streets after the recent snow. She said the kids had off two days from school, which worked well since she tutors at a school so didn’t have to go in and spent the time writing papers instead. I like Philadelphia airport more then EWR (Newark). Parking is good, especially the newish cell phone lot and Southwest flies out of there.

Well, my kid is already very familiar with the Philadelphia airport as every flight into or out of New Haven goes there (or at least every one she’s ever taken). She’s not the only Yale student stuck there right now, either. (Yeah. I know she could go to NY or Boston and fly from there. She just doesn’t want to. :() Just seems to this nervous nelly parent that it bottlenecks a good bit.

Summer of 1980 stats

Yeah. It was a scorcher. Lots of those days were up in 105-6-7 range , too.

In my Emily Litella voice from the old Saturday Night Live… “Nevermind.”

She got on the last plane out. Hurray!

Now I can go back to my worrying about the “seemingly non-random boy”. ;)

Yay! I’m glad the Mudgette got out of Philly! However, now you all have me worried. DD flies through Philly on Dec. 23 on her way back from study abroad in Zurich. Stay tuned…
