<p>cr*p, I just realized S has a w-2 kicking around and I forgot to look into filing. It’s around $1000 so I think he has to file this year. Is there something free online where I just plug in the numbers and either efile or I can mail it? I will have to look into state taxes as well. Like Today!</p>

<p>Oh maybe I don’t have to file. I think he had to file last year because they considered him self employed. This year it was from a restaurant, so I don’t think so, yay. So nevermind/</p>

<p>If he had any federal taxes taken out of his paycheck, he should look into filing - might have a refund coming his way. :)</p>

<p>TaxAct also has a free basic version of the tax software that you can download.</p>

<p>Taxact and Taxhawk both will do his federal filing for free in about 5 minutes. Taxhawk will do a lot of state filings for free as well. Both my boys do their own taxes on Taxhawk and it takes them about five minutes.</p>

<p>If you go to the IRS website and look at the menu bar on the left side, you will see an option for “Free file”. This can be used for someone in your son’s income range. You click on that link and you get to choose the tax prep software vendor you want to use. Our kids did this when they were in college. Free.</p>

<p>If thats correct, Be sure to include the "didn’t need to file " form to his college office of Financial Aid</p>
