While reading about Killer Clowns the first thing that popped into my head was
the movie Clockwork Orange.
I wonder if anyone else has thought of this link.
I admittedly do not really understand what this new Killer Clown is about but
do understand that it is going to lead to deaths.
There have been horror movies about “killer clowns” (I think the original, unlamented one was “killer klownz” or some such), and what has happened is some first class creeps have decided it will be funny to go around dressed like that to scare people…absolutely brilliant (said sarcastically). What will happen is one of these mutants will end up getting shot and potentially killed, and then the relatives will be saying ‘it was just good fun’ and the like…(reminds me of two colleagues where I used to work, right after 9/11, flying to London, in an airport lounge, probably a few sheets to the wind, and thought it would be funny to joke about being terrorists…security didn’t think so).
Scary clown movies seem to be as old as time. That and corn fields have kept me in line and terrified for years. I did admittedly get a small smile out the clowns lives matters protests and how poor ole Ronald MacDonald is laying low now. I never got the appeal of clowns.
My cousins had one of those “life size” clowns in their bedroom. Whenever I stayed over and slept in their room I was terrified. Probably contributed to my insomnia problems later in life.
Let us not forget that John Wayne Gacy was a clown. I remember at the time knowing some people who were into clowning and who were very concerned about it. But this hysteria is much bigger. Presumably it will die down soon. The number of people with genuine clown phobia is pretty small, one gathers.
I have always hated clowns and all three of my kids when young and now think clowns of all kinds are creepy. The scary clown craze is "active’ in our area - my S is a junior high/high school teacher and spend the better part of a morning class settling down some girls who were contacted on FB by a clown. D2’s college campus has sent out a couple emails about “clown sightings” on campus. Harmless, hopefully. Creepy for sure.
“By definition, an irrational fear of clowns is known as coulrophobia, with the prefix “coulro” coming from the ancient Greek word for “one who goes on stilts.” Symptoms of coulrophobia can include sweating, nausea, feelings of dread, fast heartbeat, crying or screaming, and anger at being placed in a situation where a clown is present.”
My son’s school had a few clown sightings and things got ratched up when one of them grab a girl and ran. The school even put out a police notice and advised the students not engage them. Students posted on twitter that they were armed and would use force if needed. This certainly chased of the pranksters.
Ok, so you totally made me do this. At an estate sale recently and they had 2 dolls which were so creepy I had to take pics for DD (she was never a doll girl). I set one as my avatar and if you click on her she will show you the other one. The photos don’t do their creepiness justice!
It’s a trend among teenagers on Twitter. When I think of killer clowns, I think of Pennywise. “Everything floats down here…” The scariest book I’ve ever read and soon “It” will be a major motion picture.
D’s school has sent 3 recent emails to parents regarding clown sightings on campus and ramped up security. They are asking the girls not to post pics or discuss on social media. It seems like everything gets so out of hand anymore.
