How can I kill time while my D attends a play at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC next week?

The show is at 7:30 pm.
I can’t go home; it’s too far.
I’ll be alone.
I don’t want to dress up.
I’d like easy parking.

Honestly, sitting in a Starbucks with my iPad would be OK. But, something a little more “touristy” would be fine, too.

Any ideas?

The Kennedy Center isn’t that far from Georgetown. Walking around there is always fun.

If the weather is nice, you can sometimes find open parking spaces along the roads around the Mall and walk around the open air monuments - Lincoln, WWII & Vietnam.

If you left your car parked at the Kennedy Center - it would be pretty easy to walk up to M Street and either walk or take the bus into the heart of Georgetown - Wisconsin & M Streets. Walking along M Street is nice - lots of shops - places to sit and have a bite to eat etc.

Or - take the car and drive down M Street to Wisconsin Avenue to Georgetown Park - an enclosed shopping mall. It has underground parking.

Hmm…did not realize Georgetown Park closed at 8pm - I think I would leave the car at the Kennedy Center and walk down M Street.

Washington Harbor is very close to the Kennedy Center. It is on the water - complex of luxury condos/offices with restaurants on the lower level - there are benches near the water. Nice place to sit and wait.

<a href=“Google Maps”>Google Maps;

Im not sure what time the free show that day on Millenium stage would be over - those are free shows, at 6PM in a casual lobby area on one side of the kennedy center. Google them.

You could walk on the Kennedy center plaza and take in the view. then walk over, around and through the WaterGate complex - theres a casual restaurant in the plaza near the safeway, IIRC. Theres also a starbucks right nearby. across the street is the saudi embassy, where New Gingrich insisted someone could hear a gunshot from the park across the Potomac. You can walk up to Washington “Harbour” or into georgetown. The other way is into the leafy foggy bottom area, with GWU, and the State Dept.

Looking for a free parking spot in either nabe is fun, but can be time consuming.

There is very casual Chinese restaurant in the Watergate complex. Read the old Parade Magazine story about Robert Dole and family. I think his mini schnauzer is/was called Leader. We can use a leader right about now…

Right across from the Foggy Bottom metro stop (where the shuttle picks up for the Kennedy Center metro) there’s a Sweetgreen, a Roti, and a new Circa restaurant. There’s also a couple of Starbucks in very close vicinity to that metro station. You could park at the Kennedy Center and take the shuttle back to Foggy Bottom and then go to a starbucks near there if that’s what you want the most.
