kinda unique story, last CHANCE please.

Hi everybody, I know that decisions are coming out thursday but i need help getting an idea if i have a chance or not. This waiting has been stressing me out and i appreciate if i could get an idea of where i stand.

the interesting part about my story is my dad had cancer this past spring and into summer. my family is very low income and i took a summer job to help provide funds...spent the whole summer caring for dad who was undergoing chemo. Basically my essay was about this and what i learned from it.

My guidance counselor knows about this and thinks that this really makes me stand out. i am not so confident. Any ideas?

Also, i was accepted at penn state(schreyer), nyu stern. wl at northwester rej from uva...

Well, I understand you might be a tad nervous, like the rest of us, but I'll say it again: None of us can provide you with an accurate assessment of your odds at admission. Just keep on keeping on; two days yet!

On a side note: I hope you Dad is recovering nicely. Cancer is an awful disease. My best wishes to you and you family.

I hope he's doing fine. My essay was similar... except I was the one diagnosed with cancer right before school started (last August). finished treatment in January. I can't really chance you... none of us have those expertise. But let us known how it worked out on Thursday!
good luck!

Your chances of acceptance at Harvard University are close to zero. Your mediocre scores and grades are far below average; you have no hooks, and the admissions officers at Harvard will show no sympathy for your father's cancer and admit you. There's a snowball's chance in hell of you getting in. Oh, and you're probably a troll.

^^To the poster above me, I would like to extend my sympathy, and hope that you have made a successful recovery.

^ You, sir, are heartless. Just because it's the internet doesn't mean you should use it as a chance to lash out at others. Chill out, please.

To OP: You have just as good a chance as any of us (Except the ones who already got in, obviously ;) ). Just stay cool; it's almost Thursday if you don't believe in Wednesdays.

wow. I am sure harvard's admission officers have more of a heart than you(spad) do.

troll? just because my story is a little different makes me a troll?

whoaness and clamzonio-thanks for your support! my dad is doing really well, finished treatments and recovering!

Whoops, just realized my first post here has a spelling error in it. Sorry, all you discerning Harvard hopefuls!

Ya..Spad was a little harsh in his post. However, your scores and etc will hurt you a bit. We'll see what happens...just wait it out and I wish the best of luck to both you and your father.

I sincerely hope that both of you get in.
@ OP specifically - what you have gone through is something that no one should have to endure, and what you've accomplished is hugely significant. However, keep in mind that there are other Harvard applicants with, unfortunately, similar circumstances. I think you have good chances, but if you don't get in, I have no doubt that you'll do well whever you go.

Who are we to tell you you can't get into Harvard? Far stranger things have happened, and I suppose I can only speak for myself when I say I'm not personally a Harvard admissions officer.

By now our opinions don't really matter anyways! Apps are done!

Best of luck. I'm thrilled to hear your dad is recovering, I can't even begin to imagine that kind of situation in my own family. Here's to a successful April 1st!

Thanks for the responses, I understand that none of you really have an idea whether or not I can get in or not. Good luck everybody!

I understand that none of you really have an idea whether or not I can get in or not.

Exactly. We don't.

So why post a chance thread, given this knowledge?

(This just proves to me that chance threads are total bull. They're there for posters to either fish for compliments or to get make themselves feel better - ie. get comfort. In any case, it sure doesn't help judge chances. )

Anyway, I can only say:

Good luck, the acceptance rate is around 6.7% this year.

I wish your father and family well.

Well i actually meant it to be less of a Chance thread and more of a "does my guidance counselor know what shes talking about?" thread haha.

anyways, waitlisted at johns hopkins...not very confident right now. :(

I've cured cancer. It wasn't that complicated. Man kind just had the wrong approach.

He lies! It was me! he STOLE it... the precious. my precious...

Sorry, just watched all 3 Lord of the Rings Movies to make time go faster :)

hmm interesting...

Haha! Kidding(although i don't really need to say this, but i will in case someone actually believes me.) One day we will have a cure, and maybe the person who cures it might be posting one of these CC forums.
Who knows?
To OP: Wish you and your dad a happy future.
