Kinda worried about typos/SAT writing

I’m just wondering how cornell looks at writing. Do they take it as seriously as the critical reading and math portions, or do is it still experimental? Just wondering if the 590 will be especially detrimental to my app

R: 680
M: 800
W: 590

:(. Kinda didn’t study for the grammar and essay portions…

and if I had one typo (ever instead of every), do they look especially harsh upon it or do they skip the little blip?

thx for the time!

If your native language is not English, then those poor English scores can be acceptable. But if you have no logical explanation that would explain those poor scores, it would be very hard to be accepted simply because they might think you didn’t care - and that is bad.

Cornell published that anything below 650 is poor. If you are applying to the engineering school then it’s ok, but otherwise it’s tough to say

Typo on your essay? That’s not good. Your essay is supposed to be polished and completely clean. As for your writing score…hm…hard to say.

arts and sciences; been here since 10, so i suppose that has given a lot of leeway to assimilating the english language. i’ve done well in writing competitions before and generally consider myself as an above-average writer, it’s just the grammar and the misacknowledgment of what material is supposed to get me the marks on the essay. ugh. but anyway thanks for the feedback, guess my name applies better now than any other time.

dude, writing gave me a hard time too, but i got in arts and science (not as bad as yours though…)
but, if you’re math leaning… i’m sure you’ll be great!
also, take literature SAT IIs, surprise them with an 800!
thats what i did… i did really bad on my SAT general math, then got a perfect on my SAT II math.
let them know you do have the potential to suceed, and that the low writing score was a one time thing
