I have both apps on my phone (I don’t read via the kindle app though but it is on my phone) but I don’t lose the books as long as my actual Kindle is in airplane mode.
Like @MaineLonghorn I keep mine on airplane mode except when I’m downloading a book. And it 100% makes the battery last longer.
