Kindle to Kindle Paperwhite transfer

A couple of months ago, I finally decided to give H’s Kindle a try, and fell in love with it. Have read many books since then, but ultimately decided I wanted the Kindle Paperwhite so I can read at night without a lamp on. I was told I could transfer books from the Kindle to the Kindle Paperwhite when it arrived, but now we have Kindle’s with two separate names, so I don’t think I can. Is there anyway to get around this and transfer the books I ordered from Amazon onto his Kindle, onto my Paperwhite?

If you share the same Amazon account you can share and download anything from your Kindle library onto the registered equipment. Just register it for that account. That includes not only several Kindles (we have 4 registered) but also phones and computers and tablets through the Kindle App. Go to the Amazon web site from a computer to do it easier and go to the Manage My Kindle section. If you don’t share the account then you have do the lending thing.

You supposedly can have up to six devices on one Amazon account, though we have more and they all work. You can download anything from your Cloud onto any device. Lending from account to account is much less accessible. Have fun!

You can transfer the device to the same account as your husband’s. Can’t quite remember how, but when I was given a kindle for Christmas that was bought on a different account, i was able to transfer it to mine.

You need to unregister (deregister?) your new Kindle paperwhite and reregister it to your husband’s account to be able to share books. We have 7 kindles (4 readers and 3 Fires) attached to one account so we can all share books. All 7 have unique names, but all are registered to my Amazon account. I still use the reader when I’m out in the sun such as at the beach or working a cross-country race - the Fire, like all tablets, is pretty useless in full sun.

We have separate Amazon accounts.

How do you register more than one device to an Amazon account? It sounds like we should be able to register my Kindle to his account. Do I need to deregister mine first? And yes, the book says it is not a lendable book from one account to another.

That link says to deregister then reregister, but it’s for the Kindle Fire. I have the Kindle Paperwhite. Will try to follow the directions.

YEA!!! Thank you. Reregistered with his account, and he was able to send them to my new Kindle!

Related question - Anyone know if you can use amazon/kindle e-books on an ipad?

Yes, you can!

You can get a kindle reader app for just about any device, including Apple products and Windows desktop machines.

That will be my next task, to download the Kindle app for my iPhone for times I don’t have my Kindle with me, so I can pick up where I was reading.

Along the lines of this thread…D and I both have paperwhites, but not linked to the same account (since she has flown the coop)…I’d love if we can share books but most of what we read doesn’t seem to be lendable. I’m thinking of giving her my Amazon account info so she can link up with my account - can one device switch between accounts temporarily? Obviously she’s got books on “her” account that won’t transfer, I just wondered if she could, now and again, use “my” account to look at books…and vice versa. What do you think?

DD keeps her account on her computer and phone apps and mine on her Kindle. Any combination of separate devices would work. But we read many of the same books.

JustaMom–you would have to deregister and then re-register every time. It’s doable, but a pain. Or do as Singersmom suggests and have different accounts on different devices.

I share the amazon account with my son…I am not always interested in his choices, nor is he interested in mine. but once in a while, we do enjoy the same books.

I think I have more than the allowed devices registered to my kindle account–a few phones have been replaced, but it doesn’t seem to be a problem.
