Kindle's price has dropped

I just noticed that Amazon has dropped the price of it’s Kindle to $189.
Unfortunately for me, I bought one 2 months ago, too long ago for a price adjustment but this is a great price for anyone who’s been waiting to buy.

So how much did you pay for yours, ie, how good a deal is a Kindle for $189?

$259 was the list price, when I got mine last fall.

I paid $259 in April.
B&N dropped the price of the Nook so I guess Amazon is countering by lowering the price of the Kindle.

I walked into B&N today and was told that the price for the Nook dropped to $199, or a less expenive model dropped to $149. I was told that the price dropped today.

Oh great! I’ve bought 3 Kindles in the last 5 weeks - 2 as graduation gifts and 1 for Father’s Day (purchased only a week ago). Does anyone know if Amazon will make a price adjustment (as least for the latest purchase)? It seems that I may have “misplaced” the receipt, although I may be able to find it in my email inbox.

I bought a factory refurbished one for $150 at christmas time. I have you all beat!

The ipad has killed the market for stand alone ereaders.

Yep, got an email from B and N that the basic was $149, the Internet compatible, $199.

It’s tempting, even though I love an actual book - I also love the ease of technology!

A good overview:

I just sent them an email since I purchased a Kindle as a gift about 30 days ago that I haven’t actually given to the person yet. I hope they’ll do it although I didn’t see any price protection statements on their website.

The DX didn’t drop in price.

Don’t forget you can down load Kindle for your PC for free.

Also free download to iphone and others. The ereader market is unsustainable. Hope everyone gets refunds, it will be interesting.

I also have my Blackberry synced to my kindle for my books. If I am out without the Kindle, I can actually pull up all my books on my phone. When I am done on my phone, I can go back and sync to the last page read on the Kindle.

$189 is much more affordable than $249. It’s going to be interesting to see where the prices end up.

Thanks for the tip! I’ve been waiting for this to happen.

Only thing stainable would be close to free. All of us will soon have a single ‘device’ that will be computer/phone/ereader/music/everything. Apple will continue to lead the way.

All the ereader makers knew this was coming, they just didn’t now how fast.

I spoke directly to a Kindle support person at Amazon last night. They are refunding $70 for my most recent Kindle purchase, since I purchased it within 30 days. However, they would not make a price adjustment for the 2 Kindles that I purchased about 40 days ago. I was on the phone/on hold for over 30 minutes with Amazon, as I got shuffled from person to person. I think they are getting many, many phone calls on this.

Thanks for the info on the price drop. I have bought 4 Kindles in the past two months - purchased on April 27, May 18, May 24, and May 27. I have sent an e-mail to customer service and hope to hear something. I would think purchasing 4 would merit some consideration. We’ll see what they have to say.

I don’t understand. How is the ereader market unsustainable? As long as people would rather read e-Ink than a computer screen, there will be ereaders. I, for one, opted for a Kindle over an iPad for that very reason.

You will have to pull my Kindle from my cold, dead fingers…I love it. I don’t think it’s unsustainable, at all.

An Ipad has a lot of other features than an ereader doesn’t. That doesn’t mean everyone wants an Ipad for the purposes of reading a book. It’s much bigger and weighs more. With my carpal tunnel syndrome beginning to impact my ability to pick up and hold a book, I want something that is lightweight, that I can stash in my handbag and easy on the eyes.

I think the Ipad is adorable and if I had 500 bucks, I would probably buy one for around the house stuff. But not for the way I use my Kindle on a daily basis when I am on the go - which is alot, with my job.

The only way my Kindle could be improved is if Ryan Reynolds delivered it personally to my house, but that’s just me. ;)

I love my laptop, but I can’t bring it everywhere. My battery runs down after a few hours, I don’t always have an outlet to plug in, either. I don’t know how long the Ipad stays juiced up, but don’t you have to plug in your Iphones everyday? I would imagine using an Ipad for multiple purposes would suck the battery dry in a hurry - anyone with an Ipad want to comment on this?

I can lay down reading my Kindle, I can prop it up with it’s handy cover, and it can even read out loud to me in a HAL inspired computer synthesized voice.

I do wish that I can buy a Kindle book as well as a hard copy for those that I want to share - but that’s what ebay is for, I guess.
The only time I can’t read my Kindle is in the dark. But I can clip on a little book light and we are good to go for another hour!
