Has anyone ever tried this? Our very favorite coffee is Green Mountain Dark Magic but I notice in ordering from Costco that they have this bold type and it is a bit less expensive. On a good review, I’d be willing to try it.
I use it all the time. I really like it. I do keep other dark coffees around too (italian roast, french roast, other bold coffees) just to not get tired of the one flavor.
Buy it in the store- don’t order on line. Its cheaper and it often goes on sale.
I’ve tried it and the Dark Magic. The Dark Magic is a little bolder and richer in flavor, IMO. My wife and I recently switched to filling our own pods. We like Starbuck’s Sumatra, French Roast, and Italian Roast. Also like Peet’s French Roast. We usually get a 12 oz. bag on sale for $6.99.
I’ve purchased Pacific Bold. It’s fine.
My current favorite isn’t at Costco. I find it at Big Lots. French Roast by Victor Allen. The Morning Blend is fine, too. The Italian Roast is too bitter.
Price is fabulous in the very large box…80 for $25. http://www.biglots.com/product/french-roast-single-serve-brew-cups-80-pack/p810193526
I didn’t like the Victor Allen coffee at Big Lots. But I did like the Java Homestead french roast and Columbian http://www.biglots.com/product/french-roast-single-serve-brew-cups-14-pack/p810258024?N=634125643&pos=1:9
Agree with jsain that the Starbucks flavors are very good. But not cheap. Did manage to get some at a good price from Jet, so bought several boxes. But the Morning Blend was surprisingly good. I like Dark Magic too.
We compost and were throwing 35-40 pod containers a week in the trash. Filling your own pods is more environmentally friendly, saves money, and gives you more flexibility on strength/cup size because you can add more coffee to the reusable pod. Purchase extra reusable pods if you go that route, however.
BTW, the K-cup compatible pods that say they are 97.6% (?) compostable, really aren’t, since they are basing their claim on weight and not on volume. Deceptive marketing, IMO.
@jym626 Which flavor did you try of Victor Allen? I didn’t care for the Italian Roast, but H and I both LOVE the French Roast.
I was surprised that the Italian Roast would be so bad because I thought that the roasting was similar. Guess not.
If anybody has a Publix near them, Greenwise has come out with a wonderful French Roast. I got it on sale for $5.69 a box the other day which is not bad considering that it is organic.
I think most of the K cup brands are fine. The only one I can’t recommend is the Walmart brand. I tried those and every time I had a cup , I ended up with heartburn. No other coffee does that so I have to wonder about what they do to that coffee.
For a nice bold flavor with much less waste for the landfill, try Fog Chaser by San Francisco Bay Coffee. We buy it on Amazon for about $.35 or less per serving. The pod is made out of a biodegradable mesh so you get more flavor with less plastic waste. I’m obsessed with it.
It’s been a while since I had that coffee, @mom2collegekids, so it could have been the Italian, but I thought it was the French right sat. For some reason I didn’t care for it.
Ack autocorrect. French roast. Notr sure how/why half these autocorrects are what they are.
@3rdXsTheCharm I haven’t checked lately, but those SF Bay kcups were also sold online at Costco for a very good deal…and sometimes there was an extra $10 off.
I like the Pacific Bold a lot. Can’t beat the price. Tired the SF Bay cups but they leave sediment in the bottom of mug.
$6 off Pacific Bold and/or Breakfast Blend. 120 count. 06/09/16-07/03/16.
Your Cost $37.99
