We are renovating our kitchen. I have a choice between Yorktown, Timberlake, and Medallion cabinets. (My husband is in the biz and we’ll get a huge discount on these specific cabinets). I know they are all cabinets used by the big builders – we plan to go with the top of the line from whichever manufacturer we choose.
Any experience with these? I have the kitchen all designed by Yorktown – but now my H is pushing for a different supplier. I am not thrilled with Timberlake but willing to listen if someone says they are awesome. Service is as important as quality – but quality matters. Therefore the top line, highest upgrade, etc.
I’m not familiar with cabinet manufacturers, but one thing I always look for is hinge quality. That is the first thing to fail, so make sure yours are robust, as well as pretty.
I don’t know anything about those companies. When we did our big reno five years ago, including the kitchen, we had our cabinets custom-made by a local cabinetry company. Sorry I can’t be of any help with that but one piece of advice I would give re: cabinets, and one which I’m so happy that our designer suggested, is to get interior soft close hinges. They are wonderful, for both drawers and doors.
Looking at the websites Yorktown has dovetail construction and made in the USA, Timberlake talks about being sustainable. Medallion had the least helpful site. Have you looked at all the options in person?
I have not been able to see anything but the Yorktown cabinets. With my advisor in another design center suggesting Timberlake isn’t what we want, that leaves Medallion. I have to find a place to look at them – but I did think their site was fairly helpful. (They are actually owned by the same company that owns Yorktown but apparently are the kitchen specialist brand as opposed to the builder brand.)
I have Medallion in our get-away home that we built. They have been there 20 years this summer. Medallion still makes the same door and I’ve been happy with them. I agree about on-line…I want to add a couple cabinets to a room that is adjacent and visible to the kitchen and I ended up having to go to a store to look through an “old fashioned” print catalogue to figure out what I needed. I also think they are a pretty good value overall. Out biggest issue has been with the drawer fronts which were attached with very short nails so over time the front would pull out. especially in the silverware drawer and the knife drawer which get the most use. We were able to fix that ourselves. Our “expensive” custom cabinets in our main home are 25 years old this November and look like they’ve been through a war…the hinges are shot, shelves are getting saggy all sorts of nasty things including some delamination. It is on H’s to-do list this winter to deal with that kitchen.
