Kitchen sinks

Thanks CBB…I have a Hansgrohe Allegro E Gourmet faucet sitting here. I’ll check out the Swanstone granite composite too…and compare to the Blanco.

Thanks , my - three - sons. It looks a lot more practicle than most double sinks. I got a tour of my hairdresser’s new kitchen and it was beautiful , but not practical at all.
I love where my stove is located because I can cook without my back turned on the family . I know that I want useful places to put my pots and pans , platters and cutting boards , which I have a lot of. I definately have some wasted space in my current kitchen…cabinets in bad locations a set of five ornamental drawers that have no purpose and two 1/2 cabinets for wine storage :(

lje, the key is getting a sink big enough to fit a roasting pan. My double sink fits mine just fine, on either side. Each sink is ~21x17. Maybe you have a bigger roasting pan than I do? :)

Gosh, Did the Captain of the Kitchen deviate from the proscribed recipe, Hit some Refrigerator Icebergs, and then the Kitchen sinks?

LongPrime, that was in very bad taste.

Patsmom,
and another thing,
Never, ever, taste anything from a sinking, kitchen sink.

Not sure how you can joke about a tragedy in which people were killed. But then I never understand much of anything you say.

lighten up. It’s about the kitchen not the unfortunate cruise ship and passengers.

There is going to be an investigations, people have died, a tragedy for the survivors, direct and indirect investors have lost money, insurance company approves and denies claims, more laws and regulations. Sad for everyone.

Ahem…could we please get back to the topic of helping ME choose a new kitchen sink?

I love my Oliveri sink but have no idea whether they come in any other material than stainless.

Also, just my opinion but I don’t think a corian sink would look very good with granite counters. I think if you are doing granite counters the sink should also be a natural material.

^There is nothing “natural” about the metal used in ss sinks since such compositions do not exist in nature. I would not discount a composite granite material just because the countertop is made from a rock.

^ The materials that make up steel are all found in nature. The major components of stainless steel are: iron, chromium, carbon, nickel, molybdenum and small quantities of other metals. They same cannot be said about Corian, which is made from an acrylic polymer. Imo, it makes no sense, and I think it would also look strange, to put in a Corian sink or even a quartz sink with a granite counter. It’s like putting in beautiful ceramic or glass tile in a bathroom and then putting in a fiberglass or acrylic tub.

Analogously, the materials that make up acrylate polymers are found in nature: carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen (BTW, some of the metals you listed are not found in nature in their elemental form). Your kids probably solved this or a similar problem in their AP chem class, “Synthesize methyl methacrylate from carbon and water. Use of inorganic compounds and catalysts is permitted.” According to Dupont, in addition to methyl methacrylate and butyl acrylate polymers, Corian also contains colorants (food dyes per some sites) and aluminum trihydrate, a mineral “found in nature”. Ditto Zodiaq. :)

Anyway… there is nothing wrong with ss sinks, but thumper wanted a* white sink*. Thumper wanted white appliances, too (not everyone is a ss fan). SS does not really come in white, because painted ss would look wierd. I also do not see why a white undermount sink would not harmonize with a granite countertop. Don’t upscale hotels have white sinks in the marble or granite bathrooms? I have yet to see a single ss sink at a Four Seasons, Ritz, etc.

I am in the process of building a new house. We are putting in creamy white (oyster caramel) cabinets, stainless appliances and a magma gold granite (with a lot of color and movement). I chose to put in a biscuit colored porcelain sink (Allia - single bowl though so OP may not like it). I hate stainless sinks.

Bunsen, Ok, I’ll just use the term synthetic instead. In my opinion I think using a synthetic material with a granite counter would look stupid.

If I wanted a white sink, I would put in a porcelain sink, not a white sink made with synthetic materials.

We have had very good luck with our Swanstone sink. And they do make it in an undermount style. However, I think we are going to go with the Blanco granite/acrylic. We are not big fans of porcelain. We are not getting anything stainless steel. We want white.

Somehow I’m happy that I am not the last person on earth buying NEW appliances/sinks in white. Stainless is not for everyone although you could not detect that if you visit some showrooms in our area.

Actually had a salesman in one store tell me that unfortunately the Bosch DW I was admiring in his store did not come in white. I disagreed, he ‘checked’ his computer and repeated the same thing. Maybe he thought I would just buy the stainless?

Anyway, my new white Bosch DW is terrrific and looks great with my white frig and white gas Kitchenaid range. And my white Rohl sink.

Thumper, what kind (color?) granite will your counters be?

Count me in as a “non-fan” of stainless steel. When we renovated the kitchen in our 2nd to last home tp put it on the market, we put in all ss appliances because that’s what buyers want. Keeping the fridge smudge-free was awful, and I just can’t be bothered. In our current place the only ss we have is on the gas cooktop. Cleaning that is bad enough! We have both the fridge and dishwasher with panels that match the cabinets.

thumper – we’re also thinking of a Blanco sink for our new beach/permanent/retirement home. Not sure what color – haven’t picked counters yet. Getting panel covered fridge and dishwasher there, too.

Don’t understand emilybee’s vehement opposition to synthetic, but isn’t that the great thing about having so many choices? Everyone can get what they want.

CB-
We LOVED the look of our panel covered DW when we renovated the kitchen 9 yrs ago.
So very disappointed that our DW died and would be too costly to repair after ‘only’ 9 yrs.
The replacement model DWs to accept panel front were WAY out of our league and then we would have to hassle with obtaining a new panel to fit new DW and match now 9 yr old cabinets…too big a deal.

Our new white DW looks fine but I do miss the cabinet front one. It is nice to have a really fine new DW though so I guess that is the most important thing.

The one thing in my kitchen that I do love is the sink. It is a 2-bowl stainless from Elkay’s Gourmet line, which is heavy-duty and offers deeper sinks than the regular line. The bowl on the left is very large in all dimensions, including depth. The bowl on the right is smaller, and probably the depth of a normal kitchen sink. The faucet is centrally-mounted, and is of the type where the end pulls out to be used as a sprayer. The other thing I love about it is the built-in hand soap dispenser. If I ever get to actually carry through on our planned kitchen remodel, the one thing that I have planned to keep is this sink.
