Kitchen sinks

Yes indeed! A working DW is certainly the priority – panel or no panel.

Consolation, great choice. If I ever have to get a ss sink, I’d go with Elkay. I’ve used their sinks a lot - in the labs. If these sinks can tolerate all sorts of lab torture, they should be fine with tomato sauce, vinegar and beets. :)

I’m hoping to find a VERY light granite, preferably with no black flecks and minimal dark brown.

I know folks love their stainless but to me it’s like the avocado green of the year 2012 (and near years). If you have stainless and you love it, that’s great. I don’t.

I want white.

Thumper, IMHO there are some kitchen options that are classic, and never destined to become the avocado of the future. Stainless is one, because it is the professional standard. White is another.

I’m a fan of white appliances and white sinks as well. Since I do not do any heavy-duty cooking as Consolation does, white works for me well and is easy to clean. Ss appliances are notoriously hard to keep in shiny condition, and the ones that claim to have smudge-free ss are coated with polymeric films. Kind of defeats the natural material idea, doesn’t it?

thumper, let us know how you like your Blanco sink! I can’t wait to get rid of porcelain sinks in my bathroom. They do not get as much beating as my kitchen sink, but they are in much, much worse shape (and they were not the cheapo stuff). I will go with a composite material for my next vanity.

A piece of advice from my friend: never get a black (or any kind of dark) sink. They show every speck of dust and dirt when they are dry. I saw her sink and I agree (juslt like a black car). I suspect this is going to be the “avocado green” of kitchen sinks. :)

When we remodeled our kitchen, we bought a gorgeous stainless steel farmer’s sink–the kind that reaches over the cabinet? We nearly went with porcelain, but stainless is much more durable.

thumper, when you go to granite yards, make sure to bring a Geiger counter. JK, but some granite does have a higher than normal % of radioactive elements:

I always thought those farmers sinks until my sister in law got one. She got it because she’s so short and didn’t want the 3" or so lip that you usually end up with. She could also get a bigger sink which is great for those large pots. I also love the seamless Corian sinks with Corian counters, though I am not a fan of Corian at all. You can even carve a few drain board lines in and do without a drainboard.

My neighbor just redid his house & he has Paperstone sinks & counters.
They look great & feel nice- don’t know how they will wear. ( also the dark colored ones don’t seem to show dust cause they are speckled anyway)

CBBBBlinker, I don’t have a vehement objection to synthetics, I just don’t like the combo of a stone counters with synthetic sink, especially corian.

I was wouldn’t recommend any get a cheap stainless sink. They are definitely not worth it.

I use Hope’s Perfect Sink on all my stainless and it is fab. I get hardly any smudge marks. I apply it every few weeks. In between I use Glass Plus which is what the kitchen design shop I used recommended and is what they use to keep their stainless smudge free. You can also use Glass Plus on granite counters as it’s ammonia free, however I use mostly Method cleaning products for everything.

As for black sinks agree 100% and ditto for black granite counters (unless honed granite) or appliances unless you have live in help.

The sink I have now has a built in drain board. I love it. Hate hate hate dish racks.

This thread got me hooked on the kitchen forms in the gardenweb. Boy, I could spend weeks reading through those posts. Turns out that the sink I have coming (allia. In biscuit) is a fire clay sink. I wll let you know this summer, when we are moved into the house (it is under construction) how it is.

The kitchen forums at gardenweb are amazing.
They helped me through our kitchen reno back in 2004 and then I found CC!
