I’m a bit perplexed about how to go about answering this essay prompt…

“The Boston University Arvind and Chandan Nandlal Kilachand Honors College is not your typical honors college. At Kilachand, we encourage students to be curious, open-minded, imaginative, and adventurous. In an essay of 500 words or less, tell us how these adjectives would work to describe you.”

Does anyone have any insight/ideas about what type of essay this is supposed to be and how we’re supposed to go about writing it (an analysis of an event, a story, a flat out description of how these words apply to us…?)

*please excuse my poor spelling of Kilachand in the title haha

I am a graduate from BU so my perspective may be biased but here are my 2 cents:

I would probably go about writing this essay by demonstrating how I am the above described adjectives or how those adjectives have manifested themselves in my life. Maybe an experience where I went out of the way to find something out that led to a good outcome. Perhaps the outcome was even bad but my guess is that the point of the essay is to draw out some unique aspect of yourself that shows you can contribute to BU and be successful. They seem to have made a point to make it known to you that this honors college is not average so they want to see the same qualities in you.

It’s pretty much asking you about your intellectual freedom. Think of a time when you felt all of these things. What’s a time when you felt challenged/ pushed to think of something new? What did you gain from it?
