For years I have purchased long & short sleeve cotton tops from Kohls. Unfortunately the quality of the cotton has gone down and after one washing the shirts seems to shrink in length by several inches. I guess I need to find a new source for my bi -annual white tee.
I’ve never been to Kohl’s. Am I the only one?!
Me neither.
I haven’t either, but I think it’s reasonable to require a receipt to get a full refund. Otherwise people will buy things on sale and return them saying they paid full price.
Marshall’s is a much more fun shopping experience - you’ll find better name items at better prices. No coupons needed!
I haven’t shopped much lately. Only go I to Target if I need something, same with Bed, Bath, Beyond. Not shopping at Marshall for years.
I’m not a fan of Kohls and rarely go there. I hate the whole coupon thing and the Kohls Dollars. The stores are disorganized and the quality of clothing is often pretty poor. My son and I were right next to one recently so went in to grab socks for him and ended up with a pair of Converse also. We tried to buy Levi’s but they were out of his size and they were way more expensive than at Macy’s. It reminds me very much of Mervyns and I avoided that also.
Kohl’s emails me coupons, but I seldom think about printing them out because I don’t shop there (or anywhere) very much. When I did happen to be near a Kohl’s store, I woudn’t go in knowing I would be paying 15% more because I forgot my coupon. Now I put the email in a folder to save it and show the cashier the coupon on my phone. Saves paper/toner and I always have it with me.
I’ve shopped at Kohl’s off and on over the years, always on sale, always with at least a 20% coupon and have been satisfied. I’ve got a lot of their costume jewelry and have been complimented on some of the pieces.
I do like the fact that if they don’t have your size/color/etc. in stock you can order it at a kiosk and get it shipped to your home for free. In fact, I’m kind of disappointed that there’s only one (smaller) Kohl’s anywhere near me now, whereas I had four larger Kohl’s, each one closer, back in Chicagoland. So I probably will go very infrequently now.
But - I did leave this new Kohl’s happy between sales and my 20% coupon - I got two casual jersey dresses (which were surprisingly flattering and exactly what I needed) and a cute top.
I haven’t found much at Marshall’s but have been successful at TJ Maxx, and the one out here is huge! So that may become a favored destination when I need things.
Zero sympathy for the OP on this one. Not giving you an automatic discount just because you expect it without the coupon? Outrageous on your part. Any time a business does you a favor is a bonus. You sound like once it happened you are forever owed it.
I miss living close to a Kohls since I moved from Wisconsin.
Some others’ favored stores are not on my radar. I haven’t found stores like Marshals carrying the items I want- my taste runs differently than most perhaps.
Remember- no business owes you special favors. Don’t go in counting on more than advertised. perhaps policies needed to be changed because they were abused too often by people like you.
I’m with you, thumper. I went there looking for Levi’s last weekend, and was informed that they no longer carry Long. At all. That was the capper of a debacle of a shopping trip.
“I’ve never been to Kohl’s. Am I the only one?!”
I tried to turn onto the street that leads to our Kohls. After watching 3 green arrows turning red, I gave up. It sounds like I did not miss much.
Kohls is one of our favorite stores to shop in because my guys can always find clothes they like that fit there and we always have a coupon around somewhere. They were also our first stop for college dorm shopping back in the day and everything we bought there (sheets, etc) lasted all 4 years for my guys (youngest dude is only halfway through, so the jury is out on his things).
I can’t imagine changing any of that because one store wouldn’t give a discount without a coupon. I can’t imagine demanding they give a coupon discount without having one.
But I’m glad you found things you liked elsewhere OP. That’s what shopping is all about!
Nrdsb–I have never been in Kohls either.
I’m another HUGE Kohl’s fan. I print up a coupon before I leave the house. And I always find what I’m looking for. Returns are easy, and both local stores are always clean and tidy.
They’re always my first stop on Black Friday, at about 3 am when I hit the stores
Totally understand your POV. And I would agree totally…except that this is the first time this has ever happened! Every other time I’ve shopped at Kohls, I was OFFERED a discount. In fact, in the past the clerk would offer me the 15% off without me even asking. And a number of times. Another poster on this thread is from near here…and says she gets the 15% off too.
It’s either the inconsistency or the change that is annoying.
Kohls is fine for what it is. When the store first opened, it was like an upscale version of Penneys. I don’t see it that way anymore. I think the merchandise is purposely priced high so that those coupons can be given out.
Having said that…I do think Kohls has nice towels, and bathroom stuff, which is why I went there first. They also have terrific, and I mean terrific baby clothes. I may have to go back there for that. I’ve found nice gifts for baby showers, etc. there.
To whoever said Marshall’s is s pleasant shopping experience, wow. Your stores must be very different than mine. Our Marshsll’s is a disorganized mess and the checkout lines are crazy long. More than once I’ve foubd something and then not thought it was worth waiting in line. Oddly their shoe department is an exception to the chaos in the rest of the store.
I have decent luck at Kohl’s and I always have a coupon around. It never would have occurred to me to ask for a discount. And as much as I dislike shopping I hate returning things even more, so I rarely do it.
Big fan of Kohl’s. Everything seems to be always on sale, even without a coupon. It would never occur to me to expect a coupon discount if I didn’t have one, but that’s just how I role.
And totally agree with oldfort about why stores shouldn’t be expected to take things back a season away from when sold, and with the other poster who questioned why a store should be expected to refund full price without a receipt.
I guess I’m just not a smart enough shopper!
The shoes I returned were basic white Ked’s, which some/most of the stores still carry. For some reason, this particular one does not and I didn’t realize that when I returned them. They had no issues giving me a full refund even so.
I remember when our Kohl’s first opened. It was around the holiday season. The kids were younger then too of course and not so focused on certain tastes/brands. That first visit my shopping cart was FULL. The idea of getting things for 50% off and then another 15/20/or 30 seemed unbelievable! Tree ornaments, kitchen gadgets, even toys.
As the years went on I went, but less. The last couple of years it’s a rare occasion. Part of that is that our shopping needs/desires changed and Kohl’s didn’t fit us anymore.
I too hate the Kohl’s dollars. Don’t want to have to be enticed to do a whole other trip in a week!
