LA City Council Approves SC Housing Plan

The City Council allows SC to move forward with plans to create more student housing as well as a new retail and services center.

The process likely will lead to the replacement of the University Village. A new planned development would provide as many as 5000 student beds, a large retail space, 150 room hotel and a 50,000 square foot conference facility. A revisioned Jefferson Blvd. would create a more pedestrian friendly environment.

The next step in the process will be issuance of an Environmental Impact Report.

The university has involved the community in the planning. There has been a series of 70+ meetings with community groups and political leaders.

These are highlights from an article written by James Grant.

Georgia Girl, this is good news. It will also create more jobs for downtown LA.
