Lab experience in field other than intended major useless?

I currently intern at a microbio lab and i do lots of stuff, most of which involve like chemistry lab setups and stuff.

but i wanna become an engineer, but what i do at the microbio lab is the only lab opportunity ive been able to find. can it help me or would it be seen as irrelevant?

Keep the gig while you look for something in your preferred area as any experience is good. Doing something is better than nothing.

And what if you change your mind about engineering and this work becomes more relevant?

bump

does the fact that i have lab experience mean anything or is it useless cuz its not directly in the physical sciences?
