I am currently working in a lab a UT Southwestern Medical Center, and will be a freshman at Cornell next year (won’t we all…). I was talking to a post doc in the lab today and he said he knows a professor up there that has some really interesting research going on that is somewhat related to the stuff I’m doing now, and that he’d be more than happy to put in a good word for me.

My question is, as a pre-med, I will be taking a FWS, Cal 1, Bio w/ lab, and Chem w/ lab. 15 credits. Will I have enough time to work in a lab, or is that just too much?

I really want to work in a lab, not just because it’s good for medical school, but also because I like the environment and the experience, and so I’m trying to decide whether or not to pursue a position in a lab or not. I’m thinking I could possibly get the name of the professor, and then when the time comes next year, if I decide I’ve got the free time, then I could approach him and mention I got his name from the post doc in my lab, and see where things go from there. Is that a good plan of attack?

Recommendations?
