I’m in the same boat. My current sophmore does gymnastics - 24 hours a week. She has done some volunteer/community service - one of which was Special Olympics. Her GPA is slightly above average. Our school does not offer many AP courses, but she is taking the “intensive” level of math/science and language. Her gymnastics is mediocre at best - I don’t know whether it is worth pursuing anything with it and am considering having her quit because of the financial cost involved. There have been girls from our gym who have been recruited, but it is a fickle sport. Anyone out there with gymnastics experience? I do hear from parents that it is all about the “fit” and what the coaches are looking for. Good luck to everyone.

Hi arjgn,
Welcome! You might want to start a new thread using the words “college gymnastics recruiting” to target readers who will know the answer to this question. I don’t know anything about gymnastics (my kids are runners) but I do know that if she’s interested in highly selective schools, the grades are going to matter most, unless she’s at the top (nationally ranked) of her sport. Does she love gymnastics? If she doesn’t love it, and doesn’t plan to compete in college, then maybe she should put more time into her academics, cut back on gymnastics and add some ECs she’s always wanted to spend time on. If she has the potential to compete in college, and likes it then keep going, but don’t forget about GPA and test scores.

You’ll need specific advice about her competitive level and fit from current gymnasts.

Best wishes!
