I’ve heard from various places about the relationships between schools like Columbia and Julliard, Harvard/BC/BU/Tufts and Boston Conservatory, Swarthmore/Penn and Curtis Institute.

How does one go about getting access to those heavenly set ups?

The Harvard/Tufts program is actually with New England Conservatory and not Boston Conservatory.

As for “heavenly setups”- I’m not sure in the end how heavenly they actually are. I know some people who were in the program several years ago…graduated 3-5 years ago(?) and a few who are still in the programs now.

There are certainly benefits; no one’s compaining about getting a masters degree a year after getting one’s BA at a great school. However, I’ve heard that the programs aren’t exactly very well thought out.

I don’t know what your situation is: most of the people I know are composers…it’s much easier for them to juggle the weird schedule becuase composing- while time consuming- is not like being a performer (where practicing schedules are usually several hours daily straight. Composing is significantly more flexable.) Furthermore, there is usually more support for composers at say the Columbia music department than for performers.

yeah - I am a composer.

Do they actually work out - how would I plan them/figure them out? When would I do such planning - when applying to the LACs/Universities or after I get there?
