Ladies.......long hair or short?

I have cowlicks if I sleep on my hair after it is dried. I had them with long hair, and now with short hair. I noticed using a hair dryer helped direct it. Sometimes in the morning I just use a small bit of hair spray to handle it.

Ack these things seem like work. Maybe I should stick to my long hair.

My aversion to the hair dryer isn’t because I think it’s unhealthy or anything… it’s that I’m too lazy to do anything with my hair. Brushing it and throwing it up is what I’m willing to do with it on any given day. I know that about myself lol.

Ha; I actually agree with @wis75. I’ve noticed that young girls and young women almost all have long hair which is flat-ironed. There are a few with curly long hair. I remember even in the 70s and 80s there was a lot more variety with haircuts and hairstyles and I miss it. My D had an awesome short cut in high school for a time and was quite literally stopped in the street by people telling her how gorgeous it was; I think partly because it was unusual to see. Then she was told to grow it out for dance team (ugh) and became like everyone else. Today she has long hair but heavily layered and is again stopped in the street bc it is unique (and bc she’s gorgeous if I do say so).

I work with kids all day and just recently started thinking about the girl hair thing. And my FB feed confirms it— prom photos with long flat-ironed hair on everyone! I do think there is an element of “boys/men like long hair” to it. And look at college/pro sports cheerleaders-- instead of ponytails or cute curly locks of years past-- it’s all about flinging a lot of hair around. There’s definitely a sexual or at least, ‘this is sexy’ component to it imo.

But for me, after that rant? Long hair haha.

I don’t think my short hair, even using a dryer for two minutes every once in a while, takes as much time and maintainance as brushing & washing long hair would.
But people develop a routine and it’s easy to stick to the familiar.

Long layers, just below shoulder length. The shortest “bangs” layer is sideswept and comes to right around my cheekbone when blown out.

I have long hair, and it really doesn’t take long to wash or brush (probably under 5 minutes for each of those). Granted, my hair is not thick or really long, but I can see how long hair can be 0 maintenance. I also don’t use product in it or blow-dry or flat iron. It’s not perfectly straight (somewhat wavy) and a little frizzy, but I don’t mind

One of my best friends has long, fairly thick hair. Our schedule on trips or when visiting each other has to take into account when The Hair is going to be washed, rolled, etc. I don’t mind, but it would get old very fast in my life!

I can run at noon and be put back together after a shower and makeup re-do in 15 minutes post run.

Ooof my sister, and my college roommate are 2 people who take forever to get ready. Every day. It probably takes my sister an hour alone to do her hair. I can get ready, including washing and drying my hair in 30 minutes. I can’t stand to have to wait another hour for someone to get ready to just go do something. Who has an hour and a half every day? To me it seems a bit much.

Post #81, I’m in the same boat, might have done some blow drying when I was younger but too lazy for now. Plus I have about 5 minutes to put clothes on and comb my hair. I put on a scarf to keep my neck from getting too cold. When I get to work, it’s dry.

I need at least 30-45 minutes to get my very thick, coarse hair completely dry…even with a hair dryer. I feel for those who have to wait on folks. I just plan to be first in the shower if we are all going out. Funny enough, I’m quicker than a couple of men I this house, but that’s another story.

Longer than it used to be but still very short. I have thick, wavy hair and it is a “messy” cut with wavy bangs. It’s very convenient but there are lots of times I wish I could wear longer hair. It just doesn’t work on my 5’ petite frame.

Agree that this time of year, I have to love my very short, curly, wavy thick hair. While I don’t love the humidity (hard to avoid some frizz), the routine of wash it in the morning, towel dry, apply a little leave on conditioner and walk out the door is a delight. Others at work are jealous of the curls!

Note regarding the LONG, straightened look. My D2 graduated from high school tomorrow. Every family member who was our guest at the ceremony commented on the apparent hair “uniform” of her girls school. Long - long as you can grow it! - hair, straight as you can get it on most every girl. My D has shoulder length hair with great body and girl and thankfully that was the one thing that allowed us to spot her when she was far away in the graduation line - one of the only girls NOT straight and long as can be!!!

I’m struggling with this right now. After many years of short hair, it has now grown out to the point where I can wear it it back in a ponytail or bun, but interestingly enough, that’s pretty much the only style I wear, unless my stylist blows it out. I can’t get the full, but straight look on my own and it mostly just looks eh. So,I’m contemplating going short again, but thinking I might want to wait out the summer so i can keep the ponytail in the hot weather. My husband actually prefers it short, but recently admitted he does;t mind it long if I keep it back. Trying to figure out what I actually want, not what I’m doing to assert my “individuality!”

It all depend how lazy you are. I am very very lazy, I will not have to deal with the long hair. I have hard time convincing myself for several days that it needs to be done - before I actually color my short hair. And the reason that I do it myself aside from the money is that I am way too lazy to hop in a car and do it in salon (which I used to do), as this routine is way too long. My “morning routine” before job takes me about 10 min.

Got a “pixie” haircut yesterday. It was great to run this a.m. and not have thick heavy bangs plastered to my face.

Short wash and go hair. Works great as I swim in the AM. I have thick hair and you have to find someone who can cut thick hair so it looks good. My D has thick curly hair (very curly, shoulder length hair that goes to the small of her back when wet) that she used to wear long, now she adores her super short wash and go hair. It would be a Frizz ball if she even tried to comb it.

I didn’t care for my hair when it was long and straight. It had no body (still doesn’t) and I have a very long forehead, so ponytails just did not fit the proportions of my face. When I was in college, I had it at my shoulders, layered and it took lots of hairspray and a curling iron to glue it into place. Mine’s now short and layered. Wash, run my fingers through it, and off I go. I color it from time to time, which helps give it a little body. It needs it – you can see my scalp on top all the time, and on the sides if it isn’t cut right. %$#* long-term chemo effects and PCOS!

I just had four inches cut off of my long hair. Woohoo. I feel much better. Nice chin length bob.
