Have to go to Savannah next week for a few days, and not quite sure what to pack. From the northeast, so we are definately in fall sweater/boot weather right now up here. It looks like it is warm during the day (80s?), but cools off at night. So what would be an appropriate dinner outfit? Does georgia dress for fall? Would white pants look stupid? Not sure whether to dress for summer/or fall if you know what I mean. Figured I would ask here for help! Thanks.

I’d say clothes that look fall-ish (probably no white pants), but are lightweight/short sleeved so you will be comfortable in the daytime.

It’s Fall here but that mostly means summer clothes in fall colors, which can be hard to pull off when you live somewhere with a real fall and winter.

NJTheatreMom hit the nail on the head. I’ve put away my white linen pants and am now wearing very light tan linen pants, that sort of thing. If all you have for this weather is white pants, I would not worry about it. We do like to see Yankees enjoying our weather through the fall/winter. It reminds us how lucky we are and tides us over the sweltering summers!

Ugh, 'transitional items are not big in my wardrobe
Would I look silly with black pants and black flats? how about dressy jeans? Then I could bring some light sweaters. I guess I know like south Florida attire and then Northeast fall attire, but I’m a Carolina novice in the fall. Thanks for your help! I guess I could bring everything to get my money’s worth out of my baggage fee on the airline!

From my time in the south, I’d say black pants would be great and probably better than jeans, depending on what you will be doing.

I’d say heels (even low heels) would be better than flats with the black pants. As a guideline, think: “slightly more feminine” rather than “slightly less feminine.”

It will likely be too hot in the daytime for even the lightest sweater…

I think black pants and flats would be fine. For socializing, dressy jeans would be fine so long as you have on a nice top and some jewelry to dress it up, especially if you are a younger person as I’ve noticed that tends to be a very popular look.

Instead of transitional, think neutrals as you have with the black pants and flats. You could absolutely get away with, say, black pants and south Florida type top. Do bring a very light sweater for places where the AC is cranked up and/or evenings.

Don’t forget you won’t be the only person in Savannah who is only visiting, so if you don’t blend seamlessly in with the locals you’ll have company! Also, cities like Savannah pride themselves on making people who are visiting feel at home. Just be ready for that slower pace, more smiling and casual chatting. Which, now that I’ve written it down, is actually rather nice although it completely freaked me out when I first moved to the south from New Jersey.

Riiight, the air conditioning. In NJ in the summer you’d feel silly carrying a sweater into a movie theater. In Texas, it was a necessity!

I checked Savannah’s forecast and its very close to what we are getting here lately - 70/80s day and much cooler at night - flats are fine in the ladylike South…black pants are fine - a light sweater over a tank would look appropriate. maybe you have a fall colored scarf to make a more summery (for you) outfit look fall-like.
