@TrishaAgarwal what are your stats? did you apply for financial aid? P.S. I’m from India.
Hoping to get some advice.
I am advising a client who is in LOVE with Lafayette. I think his only shot, if any, is ED. Can you guys let me know what you think?
91 GPA at a competitive HS in NJ (transcript actually says on it that the teacher’s are difficult graders and often scores and GPA’s are out of line because of this).
But
The 91 includes band and another non-academic class, so if they recalculate the GPA (any idea if they do?) he is likely more in the high 80s.
29 ACT
Really strong EC’s…in the band AND starting QB on football team. Lots of leadership (he gets picked for a lot of things because I think the overall hs community loves him including teachers and students).
White male, no hooks.
I don’t want him to waste and ED on Lafayette if he has no shot…I saw some similar ACT scores on this thread but not many. I couldn’t find a good ED thread either.
If anyone has any advice, that would be great. He has visited twice and has interviewed which went well.
One more thing…he will probably apply as a history major (he loves history) and his strongest grades and scores are English and History and he’s in the low 30’s on ACT in English and Reading.
Looking at my school’s Naviance, (also a strict grading competitive school) those stats definitely have a shot and ED will give a boost.
Agree that the stats should make him a reasonable candidate especially for ED. My kid’s stats are similar. He went to a known private. White male. Over represented region. No hooks. Slightly higher GPA. He took the SAT but tables suggest his would equate to a slightly lower ACT. Highest degree of class rigor. Good recs. No significant ECs. What they call here an “average excellent” student. He was accepted RD and will joining his class on Friday.
Thanks so much for the advice. I think he will go for it. There aren’t other schools he loved as much so I guess he has nothing to lose!
The two times I’ve heard Lafayette admission reps talk, they really emphasized the highest rigor. D has taken medium rigor so it turned me off having her apply.
^^Medium rigor at a very competitive high school can equate to high rigor in the eyes of a college.
OK, that’s good to hear. Not sure my client has that much, but some.
– Lafayette’s website has a detailed class.profile including a split out of ED applications and a description of how.grades are.recalculated.
–I would also suggest checking your client’s HS Naviance.
–If your client “loves” the school it may be worth applying so he never has to wonder “what if”
Thanks! Naviance has him a little below the average on scores and GPA, but not much. But Naviance unfortunately doesn’t tell you who may have applied with hooks, or ED, or whatever. He has interviewed and been in touch with his Ad Com…I think his only shot might be ED so he needs to decide if he wants to take that risk. He will apply liberal arts.
For those who have children who enrolled how are they adjusting to Lafayette? My freshman seems to be adjusting well. The only complaint is the volume of homework.
My son says that all is going well. He gets along with his roommates and has made several friends in the dorm. I guess that his only complaint is that he has a class from 6pm to 7:15pm.
My kid is loving the school, profs, and her classes. Just extremely homesick and feels like she is too far away.
Awww, I’m sorry to hear that @tenniswimvball.
Lafayette is about 10 hours from home for my DS (senior) and he absolutely has dealt with some issues of missing home. Especially over short breaks where it simply wasn’t practical for him to come home.
Once your DD gets full swing into clubs and activities school will start to feel a lot more like home, I’m certain.
