hi, im trying to finalize my college list.
buti cant decide between these three schools.
and im already applying to a lot of colleges so i want to cut some down.
any suggestions and advices would be appreciated :)

About me :
im interested in majoring pharmacy or chemE or something like that.
i love city! school doesnt have to be in an urban setting but id like to access to city easily.
my sat is not great : 1820 (CR 510 MATH 720 WRITING 590… waiting for dec sat)
gpa :3.86 rank : 18/213 in a public high school.
i live in virginia.

so heres my list.

uva

william and mary

georgia tech

virginia tech

occidental

case western

vcu

u of washington

lafayette

whitman

vcu

purdue- accepted…
and three 6 year pharmacy colleges.

im still debating beween u of washington , lafayette and whitman.
i dont wanna apply to all of them…
i wanna go where i can get a job after graduating…
so i think the name recognition is quite important.
and my family has low income. they cant support me so i need good financial aid.

i love washington state and i like u of washington but i heard that they dont give much money to oos students :/.
whitman looks awesome too, they have good financial aid. but it seems like its kinda
isolated and not many people know unless u go live in Northern Washington…

definitely keep lafayette… right smack in the middle between NYC and Philly. Easton is a great town as well. Also, their engineering program is top notch

yeah i like lafayette cuz they have great fin aid and international relations / engineering program which took my attention!! (im also interested in spanish haha.)
but whitman and uw looks like really great schools!!!
im so indecisive :/

I’m wondering why you’re applying to Occidental and Whitman when they offer neither engineering nor pharmacy.

UW is certainly the best of the three given your interests and wants, but unfortunately you are correct that publics tend to be less than generous to OOS students. I would consider applying anyway – you never know, and you have excellent in-state options to fall back on.

Merely going by its CDS, I would not say Lafayette has “great” financial aid.

Well it is in your favor that Whitman is need blind. Many schools hold it against you if your financial need is too daunting. And yes we’ve found them to be extremely generous with their financial aid. Although it isn’t as well known as other top LACs, the alumni are enthusiastic and that counts for a lot in terms of connections and support. They have a 3/2 engineering program with CalTech, Columbia, Duke and UW, so you could have both Whitman and UW!
