I don’t think the mud is that hot, but you don’t have to do them. They have a huge hot spring fed swimming pool that’s is warm, but not burning hot at all.

Amador wineries are also not too far off hwy 49 or 50. I highly recommend Amador county wineries or Sonoma or Napa. There are so many wonderful wineries there now and the scenery is gorgeous.

jym…
Sonoma: Sonoma Mission Inn (a Fairmont property) is terrific–great Spa.
Restaurants in Sonoma proper: El Dorado Kitchen **** Girl & Fig **** La Salette ***
(all right near Sonoma Square) Many more restaurants, these are just those I’ve actually eaten at…
Sonoma Square is a great location…one is able to Walk to many nearby wineries.

On the more Napa side, Yountville has a few favs for food: Bottega (Italian) and Bouchon (French) and Brix (CA) all for serious foodies.

Meadowood Resort in St. Helena if you want some serious pampering.

Further up from Sonoma: Falling in love with the Healdsburg Square. Cute shops (have not spent night there, but on bucket list). Also a top rate, A+ restaurant – Cyrus. On par with French Laundry, I’m told–have not been to FL. Also in Healdsburg is Madrona Manor…very nice.

Enjoy!

Oh go to Brix! We ate there and honestly it was the best breakfast we have ever had!

Thanks for all the tips. We will probably spend more time in Sonoma than Napa, as we have spent several days in Napa before, but none of this is set in stone. IF they weould get some %&)#(W$* snow in the mountains we’ll stay at the slopes.

Sounds like you may get your wish, jym. Curious what you decided–North or South Lake Tahoe?

Haven’t decided. Any updated suggestions?

go north?
Bend, OR -Mt Bachelor, new 18" in 24 hours. Storm in progress.
Mt Hood.-Meadow, new 31" in 24 hours, Storm in progress.

Flights are already booked to SFO, where DS lives, LP. It would be a 500 mi drive to the slopes in OR, wouldnt it?

Again, another vote for Healdsburg area, rather than Sonoma.

Excellent restaurants, great shopping, wonderful wineries.

A “substantial” storm cycle is heading to Tahoe (due to hit tomorrow). Hurray!

If you decide to head to Healdsburg take the drive out River Rd to the ocean. It is beautiful. A walk in Armstrong Redwoods is great.[Armstrong Redwoods SNR](Armstrong Redwoods SNR) Bodega Bay is a nice spot as well.

Another beautiful area is Point Reyes National Seashore [Point Reyes National Seashore (U.S. National Park Service)](Point Reyes National Seashore (U.S. National Park Service))

The northern Ca coastline is beautiful and wild.

Flights are already booked to SFO, where DS lives, LP. It would be a 500 mi drive to the slopes in OR, wouldnt it?

better to change your flight into Portland- 30min from Mt Hood and have your son fly up to meet you. It would take you 1.5 days driving to get there from SF.

Thanks everyone for all the great ideas! Unfortunately can’t look at Oregon for this trip. Just no time with DS and his gfs schedule. Maybe another time.

What is the point of the trip? Is it to ski? Or is it to visit your Son in his new enviroment and add some vacation type activity to the visit?

A little of both :)

you could fly from SFO to Bend-Redmond
[Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort - Current Conditions](Mt. Bachelor Conditions Report | Mt. Bachelor Snow Report)

or SFO > PDX. 40 minutes from airport to Timberline, 60 min to Meadows.
[Conditions | Mount Hood Meadows Ski Resort](Conditions & Mountain Cams | Meadows)

or drive: I5-> Hiway 97.
Central Oregon is awesome.

For Restaurants in Sonoma, try The Girl and The Fig. For lodgings, check out Sonoma Mission Inn (but $$$), and lots to eat on the Sonoma Plaza.
