Lake Tahoe Skiing- suggestions needed

I was just trying to respond to your earlier question about where the review were that I saw. Not meaning to sound unappreciative. I greatly appreciate all the tips. I’ve been out tonight and didnt have a chance to respond earlier. Oh, and I ran a quick virus check on my computer and didnt pick up a problem.

jym,

no, I did not notice the negative reviews before I made the recommendation, I also found some on the TripAdvisor. I was totally rely on my friend’s report. Granlibakken is only 10 minutes down the road in Tahoe City, it should be ok for $200. It received 4 stars from Trip Advisor.

Thanks. Will keep looking at options. Am starting to lean towards using some hotel points…

Actually it is not too bad staying South Tahoe. You can ski one day at Heavenly, three days at Kirkwood which is 45 min. away and 1 day at Sierra. You get to use those points to save money and stay in style.

Kirkwood is on sale at Costco, I believe it is 2 or 3 tickets for $99. You can have your S buy them before your arrival. The other discounts have been mentioned before. You can have your S to check with Sports Basement in SF or Helms of Sun Valley in San Mateo for other discounts or REI in RWC.

At Kirkwood this weekend, only 4 runs are open (9 runs are closed) because of the lack of snow.

“My norton did not find any malware.”
norton is a piece of ***** and is worthless.
If you havent already, download malwarebytes from Cnet downloads and run it. It has detected and solved many malware problems for many CC users.
Then start using Avast anti virus- paid version. Its much better than Norton.

^^ The issue is that the hosting site itself was reported to have malware - not artlover’s PC. The hosting admin needs to straighten out the problem.

^^ Its all cleared, some how some htmls my friend put there 10 years ago were found as “malware”, I went to google webmaster to clear it up. There is no virus.

^Op is coming here in Feb. Not today. The snow condition will change in this time period, it will get better. Wish jyms have a fun trip!

I grew up in Lake Tahoe and am here for winter break! As others have said, it is easiest to get to the North Shore from SF. Squaw Valley is unbeatable and you will find a lot of advanced/intermediate runs. The village is probably nice for tourists but I find it kind of boring, kind of cookie cutter.if you go there you might look into staying at The Olympic Village Inn, it’s small and quiet and not as much as the Village. It is right at the base of the resort.

If you stay on the north shore you will need a car to drive into Tahoe City. Make sure you go to "The bridgetender " for a late lunch after skiing–it’s soooo good. Tahoe City is fun and you should find a lot of good restaurants there. You should also drive into old downtown Truckee and eat breakfast at the “squeeze inn”.

If you don’t want to drive that much then stay on the south shore by the casinos. The Marriott , Embassy suites and Harrah’s all are good and close to the gondola. There is a lot to do on the South shore without driving around. Have Dinner at the Chart House , the best view in town and breakfast at the “red hut” on ski run blvd. Skiing at Heavenly is great and they make a ton of snow. I seriously doubt that it will not snow before Feb and I believe the forecasts are calling for a change in the weird weather pattern in the next 10 days.

The west shore is really nice but really quiet. Not much to do and the skiing is for intermediate and below.

Any weather update? Have the flights and the 4 wheel drive reserved. Now we need SNOW or we’ll be hitting wine country. If we decide to only ski for 2 days, where is the best place in terms of best chance of snow or decent snowmaking?

Alaska has been stealing California’s weather but we’ll be getting it back later this week. A big storm is supposed to be rolling in and it looks like lots of rain for the Bay Area this weekend (= snow in the Sierras).

The big resorts all have snowmaking equipment - they’ve been advertising it heavily on the radio.

don’t worry, its coming.

Not to worry jym… Presently in SoCal, we planned to escape NorCal rain season for some golf. Alas, cold and rainy here.
I’ll be home next week, so it’s sure to rain in the Bay Area and bring snow to Tahoe.
You’re welcome.

Son works at heavenly and tells us that most of the area ski resorts have lost customers to their superior snow-making capabilities. They were PACKED over Xmas break…

Thanks, curioser. Heavenly shows 77% of the mtn open. Northstar shows 80%. All the others show much less :(

Sonoma is nice - we stayed here with my brother in law and did the mud baths: [HOME Indian Springs Resort & Spa](<a href=“Napa Valley Hotels | Indian Springs Calistoga | Official Site”>http://www.indianspringscalistoga.com/)

[Amador Vintner’s Association Visit Us](http://amadorwine.com/new/pages/visit.cgi) I have not been to Amador county but I have several friends who have now gone wine tasting there several times. It might pair nicely with Tahoe.

If you go to Sonoma, don’t miss the town of Healdsburg, which might be part of Sonoma. It is a quaint artsy town, where I had the best casual meal at a French cafe. Real estate prices are less than at Napa - realtor in town.

There is another thread discussing the Bachelor, and I think it is taking place in Sonoma and Healdsburg.

Mathmom, that link looks gorgeous!

Watch out for rocks if you will be skiing without a lot of snow. They cause accidents and broken bones.

^^ Needless to say skiing is dangerous if you are not careful under any conditions. But jyms are expert skiers, they should have enough knowledge to avoid accidents.

Amador County is on RT 88 from the Bay Area en route to Kirkwood. If staying in the South Tahoe, you may stop by after skiing Kirk, not too many accomodations there though, only small motels.

Thanks, everyone! We’ve been to Napa, which is why we are considering Sonoma this trip. Restaurant or hotel recommendations? I will look at that spa for sure. When we did the mud baths in Napa it burned my skin! I had red splotches for 2 days :(
