So the Dec SATII scores just came out and i kind of want to die. haha -.-
SATII CHEM 730
SATII BIO 740
SATII MATHIIC 710

rest of my profile:
Acad GPA (10-12) 3.95/4 nonweighted; 4.50 weighted
Rank: 1% (10-12 rank 3/499)
SAT Math 800, CR 680, W 760

im looking at my Math IIC score and thinking that this might cost me my admission, so i registered for the jan test, which i will do whatever it takes to ace. but i dont think colleges like second tries, esp. on SATIIs. so should i retake it?? my dad already told me i killed my chances at UC Berkeley T^T

Your dad is stupid! Have fun at Berkeley if that is where you wanna go.
A 4.5w and 2240 should have you in at berkeley almost no problem.

Seriously man, get real. Berkeley? It’s not anywhere close as hard to get into as Harvard, yale, princeton, etc.

Tell your dad to learn about how difficult (or in your case easy) it is to get into certain schools and not to underestimate your skills and cut you down.

Unless you’re from CA, UC berkeley is extremely difficult to get into due to the low out-of-state admittance rate. i think they only fill freshmen class with 25% out-of-staters.

In response to justatest, I’d say this: UCB isn’t easy to get into, but any student who’s academically admissible to the Ivy-league is just as easily admissible to Berkeley.

A 3.7+/4.0 and 2200+ SAT should never limit you from a government subsidized school (out-of-state or not), that would just be ludicrous.

oh i do live in CA but im a canadian citizen. i qualified for their local eligibility context (top 4% of class guaranteed to at least a UC) so im in at the lower end UCs (Davis, SB etc). but i guess i’m still an international student, whose admit rate is like 12%? it’s weird. but ya not too worried about UCB, since international tuition there is insane compared to Mcgill’s canadian tuition.
drmambo, ya i saw the minima and medians etc, i just didn’t think they were accurate predictors of whether i’d get in (minimum and averages… hmm). but i think i can give it a rest thanks

I’m sorry syzonin, but why would come into this forum with a 1480 SAT and a 3.95 gpa and not expect to get into mcgill? it’s ok if you are close to the cut, but i think youre pretty damn safe with mcgill. but seriously, have some damn common sense and look at collegeboard to see what the SAT range is. Don’t come in here with this junk about you feeling you’re “not good enough” for all of these schools. Wise up bud, look around before complaining about your excellent scores.

um. i didnt post this because of my SATI scores… i never worried until my SATII scores came out. no need to bash someone for having insecurities, its not like you have a chinese parent constantly repeating that you’re not going to get into mcgill. what, am i making u feel bad about urself for ur not so “excellent scores”? holy crap -.-

There’s no need to give me crap about my scores, which are in the 94th percentile of the nation. Go somewhere else if you feel so insecure about it; everyone seems to be amazed by the fact that you would even bother wasting a post to whine about your scores. You obviously seem to be so good at math, maybe you should realize that the median sat at Berkeley is 1325 and McGill 1370. The minimum sat II math II at McGill is like 620. There ya go, one google click away. Go to Asian College Confidential so you can whimper with others alike about your 740 on Bio.

seriously syzonin…any score over 700 for any sat 1 or 2 cannot hurt you no matter what the number for college except for maybe getting into HYPS MIT, Caltech, and like columbia or somethin.

what kind of harm am i doing to you asking… plus adam, you asked if you were going to get in with your 94th percentile score right? and your high GPA. your scores are exactly borderline either. and don’t get me started on the Asian College Confidential, racist ****head.
if you look carefully about my question, it was about whether or not to retake the Jan SATIIs in MATH, not bio or my SATs. it’s a realistic question, no?
by the way, people in the SAT forum ARE telling me to retake my math section, though they dont know the rest of my profile or that the score is for mcgill. so ya after about the 4th thread i know where i stand, and could tell my dad that he doesn’t have to freak anymore.

fewf, anyway happy new years everyone (soon).

No one needs to get hostile, this is just college-admissions. It’s not the end of the world.

In a few months, you’ll either grow up, and stop caring about where you’ll be at, or you’ll care even more (but who wants to be lame like that?)…
