Lance Armstrong decides not to fight charges...

After reading the interview with LeMond’s wife, I don’t think he deserves a second chance. I think he deserves to be prosecuted for harassment, fraud, and hopefully will get sued civilly by those who lost their livelihood to Lance’s thuggery.

All the drug cheaters lied until they were caught. He is not unique in that.
He will be making amends to those he hurt. This was the first step. Even some of those he hurt agreed that it is extremely hard to talk about the drug use and that this is an important first step.
It doesn’t matter, really, whether Jeff deserves a chance to right things or not. He HAS that chance, whether or not you like it.

He is a good father to 5 kids ( I know this) and I hope he will become a person they can respect. He isn’t right now.

Actually he lied continuously until after he was caught. Let’s remember that he did that “enough is enough” thing when USADA made their decision.

Anyway there’s a section in part two of the interview where Armstrong chokes up. It looked like he was trying to cry, but failed. Then it switches to a shot of Oprah that looks like she’s giving him side-eye. I don’t know if that’s actually what was going on but it’s much more entertaining if you interpret it that way.

Boo-hoo, Lance. What do you think of the Greg LeMond issue, MOWC? As I’ve said, I think that the doping essentially enabled LA to compete on a more-or-less even playing field.

But what excuse can you offer for his vindictiveness towards LeMond and his deliberate destruction of LeMond’s livelihood?

Let me make it very clear that I know he was not alone in the doping, and that I think that the powers-that-be in cycling were to a large extent complicit.

I don’t know. I would want to hear what Lance has to say about it- now.

It is absolutely most difficult to reconcile the things he did to others, particularly the character assasination on Lemond, who was a hero, and who lost everything, including his reputation and livelihood due to Armstrong’s lying attacks.

That is the hardest thing to get past.

We will see what he does to make this better in the coming days, and, hopefully, Lamond and Armstrong will switch places, and Lamond will get some endorsement deals, and maybe sue for libel and capture some of the wealth Armstrong stole from him, which he, really essentially did.

Does anybody know if he faces any prison time for this? I know some olympic runners did end up in prison for lying about their steroid use.

I completely agree with all of this.

Love this:

I hold out no hope that Lance will change. I saw no real remorse during the interviews. He described himself as a “bully” and that is his truest statement yet. I am not sympathetic to bullies who threaten and lie for over ten years. My heros are LeMond, Andreau and others who stood up to him. They are the ones who deserve our support and admiration. Armstrong? He’s scum - always been only out for himself.

MOWC: thank you for posting (#298) exactly how Lance changed things for many of us. He may have saved my husband’s life with his advocacy for healthy recovery from cancer (he’s now been in remission since 2001–and that’s when my husband became a cyclist). He may be a jerk and a bully and a terrible person… but I can’t forget that he inspired my husband and many others to get on a bicycle.

Armstrong has been accused of lying in his Oprah interview. Among other lies,
