He may not be the best singer in the world to those that know singing better than I do, but I sure enjoy listening to him. And I love his personal story! He seems like such a wonderful person too.

Wish I had his Sinatra chops. We placed 6 votes for iLuminate, 3 for LM and 1 for Silhouettes. Kinda of surprised iLuminate didn’t win.
Admire Poplyfe for attempting the Queen song, but no one can sing Freddie Murcury like Freddie did.

Like the whole package! Sings very nicely. Great performer. Great back-story. I’ll take it!!
And he can probably develop his singing shops quite a bit further- doubt he has had much training yet!

Well, that Poppycock Prince surely did a better Queen number than Poplyfe. Their medley in the finale simply exposed that the girl is not a great singer yet. The group sounded a lot better in the exhibition, but that was because of being in a supporting role to Wonder. Pretty amazing for teenagers.

I have to admit that I found the results very much in line with my own. In prior years, it seems that only Terry Fator could claim to be worthy of winning it all. A few years ago, there was this horrible Neal E. Boyd beating a great Eli Mattson, seemingly because the show wanted its own opera singer a la Paul Potts. Speaking about Chef Boyd, it looks he might be trying to bring his “talent” to the US Congress. Like we need more divas in DC!

Every year, there are acts that are pushed and over-hyped. The iLuminate was it this year. Last year, we had a similar act and the results came in along the same lines. Those acts are exciting for a few minutes but fail to generate much emotion. And, fwiw, I would not want to sit watching what looks like a video game going mad for too long.

The Silhouettes group, on the other hand, brought something fresh, and probably unique. And contrary to the light kids, their show was oozing emotions. The possibilities are also endless. They deserved to be ahead of the iLuminate.

All in all, this year’s show did work pretty well, and the winner was clearly the best choice possible. The only negative I see is the length of his name.

I totally disagree. I’ve heard many do Sinatra better. Seems like a great guy with a great story, but I don’t think he deserved to win. Definitely preferred illuminate and Silhouette.

I saw 15-20 minutes of the finals. In a country so stuffed with talent that it launches some new star practically every week, is it really the best this show can do to produce two novelty dance ensembles and two karaoke acts? I did think the dance groups were kinda cool, but in the end they were just novelty dance acts with very limited appeal. I wouldn’t want to watch either for more than a few minutes.

My D’s dance company was on the New York audition round this year - there was about 30 seconds of their act on near the end of June.

Landau’s audition was on the New York auditions too, and I definitely got teary eyed when I saw his act. He came out, and everyone thought he was going to be one of those weird acts they put on for the novelty value. And then he started singing. I was just amazed - the voice was so incongruous to the person. And having the hard life he’d had. And he was so weepy and grateful when he was applauded and praised.

I like him because of his singing, and because he seems truly humble and genuine. So I was rooting for him the whole way. If anyone deserved to be liberated out of a West Virginia car wash, it was him.

I’m also glad Landau won but I DO think most voters (including myself who gave him all 10 of my votes on Tuesday) could not separate the singer from the kind and gentle car wash attendant. It makes an unbelievable rags to riches story. I didn’t love his final performance and would be somewhat surprised if Piers and company loved it as much as they say they did. I’m inclined to think they were “steering” votes his way after his final performance on Tuesday because he was their “sentimental favorite”.

The sequence of the top 4 winners fell out as I had anticipated, and Landau Murphy is a very, VERY likeable guy. I am very happy for him. That said, if I am going to watch/enjoy a Vegas show, I think Silhouettes or iLuminate might be more entertaining. Kinda like Blue Man Group.

It’s probably unfair to compare those two groups to superstars such as the Blue Men Group. Seems like comparing a street juggler to Cirque du Soleil. The Silhouettes has potential, but that light show is too uni-dimensional to avoid boring people after a mere few minutes. It is also too impersonal. I am not sure how it could be expanded and made more interesting than it was during AGT.

Had iLuminate won it would have been the worst year ever.

Its perhaps better to compare these 2 groups to what Blue Man Group was 15+ years ago. iLuminate and Silhouettes would /should get the backing, staff, designers, choreographers, etc to make them approprite for Vegas. And they will.

Don’t get me wrong. I love Blue Man group. Their innovation is incredible. But I am not sure that iLuminate is that much more unidimensional than say, Stomp, but they’ve had a pretty good ride.

Landau has charm. He’s extremely likeable. I wan’t impressed with his duet with Patti LaBelle. He should stick to the old rat pack troubador/ballad singing.

When I first watched Landau I was surfing on the net so I tried to look him up (as I do others sometimes to see if they have any professional background). I did manage to find his Myspace account under a nickname he goes by. I wrote to him to suggest he might want to change it before the media found it.

We ended up conversing, connected on FB, and wow, what an incredibly genuinely sweet guy. He told me he hadn’t had any professional training at all.

I have been rooting for him since then and was so happy for him. Of course I’m sure he’s not actually answering his own emails now!

None of the other finalists did much for me. Poplyfe were fun to watch, amazing kids, but not yet at their potential or where I think they’d have to be to be pop stars. iLuminate was interesting and creative, but I got bored with it. Silhouettes were so adorable and also very creative, but after a few performances seemed too corny. Though I could see them really appealing to a segment of Americans to which I have little in common with and so I was surprised they didn’t win. Then again managing THAT many kids in a Vegas act seems impractical.
